Picked up this set at Stillorgan yesterday

Seller had it from the time he was a breadsnatcher.

It looks like it was never out of the box

Interesting that the usual instructions that accompany these sets was still included

It shows the set number, R384, and the date of manufacture, 16th May 1977.

I was of the opinion that the Hornby sets, Slainte Express and this one were not manufactured till 1980

Also included is a 1977 Hornby catalogue which makes no reference to the CIE Set!

Great find Dave. I remember it well. My little brother got the Slainte express set and I got the freight set above for Christmas. I’d guess it was 1977 or 78 at the latest as we moved house shortly after when Dad died.  I still have one of the locos, the wagons and two of his mk2a coaches. The self adhesive CIE roundal was always falling off. Had to glue it on in the end. You could cut pizzas with the wagon wheel flanges

That livery looks really good with that logo; far better than the current logo.

Speaking of which, any sign of MM considering a re-tool of the 071 to reflect the current loco configuration with new handbrake and no cab handrails? Potentially four liveries so far - black/silver with new handbrake and still with cab handrails, refurbished 071 in grey livery, 071 in CIE and 073 in IR livery all with new handbrake and no cab handrails.

Good find, the missing is Card tunnel.

The Hornby sets, Slainte Express was production in 1976.

Hornby to dropping production of Triang style bogie motors with black wheels by end of 1977, In early 1978 it will replace by new 'ringfield' motor with plastic bogie and chassis with silver wheels on Hymek and Class 37.

The hornby logo was 1976-77. Have a look at history of Hornby logo - http://www.hornbyguide.com/logo_menu.asp

There is a great article in the Gauge O Guild Gazette this month on the MRSI 'Locos For Ardmore' where the above model builder and others are credited for the amazing array of Irish type locos on this layout, amazing stuff......

Wow!   ......"proper" cranes from the days before just about everything maintenance-wise was sheep-dipped in garish yellow!

Have been helping a girl dispose of her late fathers stock over the weekend, his suits wouldn't fit me!

A lot of BR stuff (Check out Adverts.ie) but a few Irish bits

This one has me puzzeled

MMO156 is an IR loco but his was in IE

Not having the best mincers in the world, it looks kosher to me

Pics are not the best I might do some more tomorrow

I await your thoughts
