Good evening folks,

 

Tuesday 17th January 2017:

There was considerable disruption to the Westport line after the 1140 Ballina - North Wall IWT Liner failed near Balla Station. It was rescued by 088 and hauled 073 and its train to North Wall. I photographed and videoed it passing Portarlington about 140 minutes late, along with a couple of ICR sets and 229 on the 1800 Heuston - Cork.

Evening folks,

 

The main events of the past two days have been the use of Belmond liveried 216 on several Dublin - Cork trains folllwoing the failure of 221 at Mallow on Saturday night.

 

216 was the standby loco at Cork and was pressed into service on the Sunday working:

 

1220 Cork - Heuston with 4006.

1900 Heuston- Cork with 4001.

 

On Monday 23rd January the loco worked the following services:

0715 Cork - Mallow empty.

0800 Mallow - Cork

0920 Cork - Heuston

1300 Heuston - Cork

1620 Cork - Heuston.

Hi all,

 

On the 30th anniversary of the formation of Iarnród Éireann, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland's 'Yank' 134 was moved from Connolly to Inchicore for body overhaul for the future main line career of the loco. This was the only 1994-logoed vehicle moving that day, with the 1976 'Retro Train' 071 working the 0815 liner ex Ballina. Click on the photos below to view them all

Good morning all,

 

Once again, as part of my college course in DIT, we were invited for a tour around Inchicore works. Rolling stock observed included:

 

-234 in the Ramps getting engine attention

-232 waiting bogies

-222 in the paint shop

-2615+2606 waiting for the lathe to beome free

-Various 071's in the yard

-216 outside the running shed

 

Photos also include a spin to Drogheda and the trip home.

 

Once again, thanks to all involved, especially the IÉ staff who gave up the time to show us around.

We only got to go once when I did that course☹️☹️ Luckily I then did my work placement based out of Inchicore!

 

Well the first time we tagged along with a group of Mechanical Engineers going out, second time was us proper, this time was on 'day release' from my placement in Connolly!

You obviously haven't tried a thing or two in the UK! Or a 29000 to Sligo ;)

 

I have many a time, but only short commuter runs <2hr (except sligo on a 29000), but the Mk3 seats were so much more comfy on the intercity runs as are the Mk4 seats today, not to mention the ride comfort and lack of noise inside the coach.

I have to say, as a regular traveller in ICR sets, I don't find the seats too bad. They're more comfortable than a Mk 4 seat, but so is a plank.

 

My issue with ICRs is the excessive heat, and unventilated smelly toilets.

 

I was on a 29 recently but was only going to Ashtown so it was ok! I find the NIR railcar seats quite good. But, noisy as they were, in terms of passenger comfort, the seats on the old AEC sets were better than any other railcar.
