  2. MGWR took on builders no 3975 and 3974. Locos were named ‘Limerick’ and ‘Athenry’. Classed as 234 (J17) by GSR.

  6. It’s delightful I agree. But did nothing to make such lines viable given the traffic density. I remember reading a quote in a book about Col Stephens and his railways, describing how horrified he would be about such high standards on a tertiary route! One of the reasons the SLNC limped on as long as it did is that its PW was just good enough to work. That said, I do recall with nostalgia the GN main up to the 80s when the mileposts between Dundalk and Drogheda had manicured grass surrounds…
  7. Looks good. Know what you mean. I’d be terrified about weathering really nice models like that. At least with when it comes to my own scratchbuilds and weathering I know what faults need concealed!
  8. Most enjoyable trip to see Bruckless today - bumped into @leslie10646which is always a bonus! Great to meet @Andy Cundick and get a guided tour of Donegal stock over the decades! Thanks for all your patient explanations to my questions Andy! Not to mention the impromptu railcar parade Exquisite stock and a lovely background against which to view it all. See it if you can !
  9. That’s incredible. One of the most difficult Irish locos to model given the paucity of footplate.
  10. The tram crossing the Bridge looks like a Chamberlain car, delivered c1928-30. So possibly early 30s. Definitely pre-war.
  11. That’s reassuring. Roger Crombleholme, who bought a standard gauge loco for preservation in 1965, is also still actively designing Irish kits

  16. Looks good. Has some good potential. I wouldn’t bother adding more track to be honest. On a small layout, it’s tempting to cram in too much track. Sometimes less is more! If anything I’d feed that siding to building 5 off the loop to make it easier to work.

  18. Lots of delicate work Alan. Agreed though - always easier to cut a hole in a solid cylinder than try to create some open sided structure !

  20. Might actually be an opportunity to reinstate the old distinction of ‘Enterprise’ trains amongst the normal run of Belfast-Dublin trains.
