The legs were the original legs that were orderd with the layout. these were on the original specification. Only on the day of delivery that you wanted them higher, I did say they would be an additonal cost and that the layout would have to be taken apart again. I didnt hear from you after that. you had new sheleving put in and then wanted the layout to match that height. Happy to come back and put new legs on the layout for you, but it will be at an additional cost.

Concept early ‘18, arrival the other day. A delay occurred with (a) Malahide casino issues, and (b) my house move, which took four months (long story)……!
And covid!!!
Layouts like these with scenery with that detail take a lot of time to build. Also its hard to work on one layout day in day out, it needs an artistic eye and time to plan the next stage. Kevin that worked for me did wonders with ths layout.

Such a lovely layout, the scenery is fantastic and you blended it in very well with the backscene boards. Great work

Sounds great.
May I ask what era is it. With those box car things (sorry I don't know much on the rail through the USA) in the second last pic is it 90s - present day era?
It was supposed to be late steam early diesel, I got a bit carried away buying kits and locos from all eras! I am thinking late 60's

After using my small N gauge layout at shows I have always wanted a large HO layout. So taking so much needed time out I started to build one. It's 5mtr x 1.5mtr or 16' 5" x 5'
Its not based on anywhere, has lots of shunting potential. It will have a saw mill on one end with a paper mill in the middle and a loco maintenance depot at the other end.

Truly shocked and saddened to hear of Anthony's passing. Such a nice guy. He will be greatly missed.

Well it's moved on considerably since August. It is now on site and the track is down and now I have to sort out the computer control. The build has now been split between 2 companies to speed it up. We are doing the boards, track, point and computer control.
It should be open to the public for Christmas.

Also remember with curves on gradient, the tighter the curve is, it will have an affect on the gradient.

Congrats Dave,. Looking like it's going to be something really special. They got the right man for the job.
One question Dave ,. what is open frame,. sorry if it's a silly question.
Hi John,
Open frame boards don't have a top on them. They need more bracing on the frame to add strength.
The advantage of open frame is you can have the track work raised as the landscape rises and falls around it.

We have been appointed to build the new layout for the Fry model railway museum.
The new museum is not far off finished in the old casino building in Malahide.
The new layout is 11mtr long x 4mtr wide and will be OO gauge. The reasons for OO was space as O gauge in that size would look like a train set and budget. Replacing O gauge Irish rolling stock was also an issue. The cost in replacing a loco being in excess of 2 grand they quickly realised OO was the way to go.
The Cyril Fry original collection is currently off for conservation and will be on display in the museum. The museum itself is lovely, above the layout will be a suspended O gauge track where models from the layot in Malahide will run through the day.
The new layout is under way, I have attached a few pics. The baseboards are birch ply open frame the upper structure is MDF. The open frame allows for realistic landscape.
The layout will be divided into 4 scenic areas, Dublin at one end with Butt bridge and the liffey, Malahide on one long side, then part of Bray head at the other end with Mallow station on the other side. The pics show the Mallow side with the curve for Bray head at the end. I'll keep the thread updated as the build progresses.

Thanks Dave, I will start with YouTube and get as much information as I can, before I undertake the job. I know a small bit about CV values, but not enough, to dive straight into the job. I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks Again,
Controller.
No problem, just take your time and you can always reset the decoder if you run into problems. Start with one loco, play around with the settings and watch the effect it has.
