That's not the findings of the hydrolocial engineers that wrote the 2020 RPS as Ballycar Lough and the surrounding loughs contribute to flooding in the region and to solve one, you need to solve the other.
I don’t have the benefit of the findings you refer to. I bow to their greater knowledge. I was simply speaking having been actively involved with the works at Worcester. A physical model of the roadworks at Worcester was built and tested at Aston University, Birmingham.

The proposed solution is a full flood relief scheme and drainage design for the region. Rasing the embankment only kicks the can down the road and leaves it open to flooding during 1 in 100 year floods, which is no bueno these days.
Proper design of a raised embankment would make sure that the problem is not passed on elsewhere. The use of physical/mathematical modelling will give the correct size and number of openings in the embankment. That carrying the Worcester southern link crosses the wide floodplain of the River Severn has just one large opening in it.

Do I spy a derailment in the left hand background?

Thanks for that. Were some of these sold to the MGWR when the GSWR took over the WLWR and decided they didn’t want the engines on order?

What is the GSR/CIE classification of the WL&WR 0-6-0, please?

Had to have a closer look at IRM's first trainset, the ITG's A3R and the RPSI's Mk2 coaches!
Up close and personal, these are just lovely lovely coaches.
Again, lots of "No Smoking" signs so no work for @Rob!
547 rides a little higher than 181 and 300, maybe 1mm or 2mm.
There's extra clearance between body and bogies compared to the other two.
Is this prototypical?
Sorry if the lighting is a bit off, hard to get a good balance with the sun in your face in this horrid heat.
Absolutely love the ‘natural’ background.

There seems to be a belief amongst planners that people are ok with having to change trains multiple times. Am I in the minority who believe that puts people off train travel?

There was also a proposal for a new high speed line bypassing Portadown. Some really good stuff in the AIRR but we’ll have to wait and see. Something I learnt many years ago, it’s not how fast you go but how slow you go ie how many stops you make.

What’s proposed above includes a brand new high speed railway from Dublin to Kildare. Therein lies the problem. Largescale improvements of existing infrastructure are much more likely than brand new.

I note that they use the word could rather than will, which suggests…..or maybe it doesn’t. We’ll have to wait for the formal announcement.

There seems to be a reluctance to integrate all forms of transport, even though they may also be in competition.

Warley at the NEC has re-invented itself as Warley at Statfold on 12th/13th October. That is excellent news.

An interesting photo looking out of the GNR(I) passenger station rather than into it, if that makes sense.

Hi
Publicity looks to suggest a rerun of Ally Pally shows in London but I guess room for enlargement.
NEC costs are eyewatering so it will be very interesting to see how the new "Warnley" show develops hope the Warners team of paid staff can pull of a show to match the volunteer run one.
I wish them well in this show.
Robert
Well said sir.

I know Guinness was mentioned in the first paragraph but I was simply pointing ou that it wasn’t on the list of industrial sites with their own locos.

Guinness was not on your list.

It’s not the first and it won’t be the last. Some time ago Wyre Forest and more recently Leamington & Warwick have thrown in the towel because they couldn’t stage a show at the right price. Both were good shows and still missed. On the other hand there are plenty of good shows around, eg Cheltenham, Wells and Ross-on-Wye, the latter put together by the local Rotarians, not a railway modeller amongst the but a first rate show nonetheless. The point about volunteer run events is well made, never enough people coming forward to help.

It would appear to be not just the UK government that is to blame for the decision to throw in the towel. A sad day indeed.

We had to give Bayley renal medication by syringe every day and he played his part by co-operating and making it so easy for us to help him. No other one of our 12+ cats has been so good like that.
Enough about our love for our feline friends, let’s get back to Irish railway modelling. Never before has there been so much support for such a small market. Long may it continue.

Thanks for your thoughts on reducing the role of kidney failure in feline deaths, very interesting. We did something similar for our Bayley and managed to keep him alive and comfortable for a good few years. He was a lovely boy and we still miss him. His passing left a big hole in our lives.

I take my hat off to you, sir, for your services to the felines of the Canaries. We had three Bengals, Lily will be 16 later this year, Bayley was 13 when we lost him to kidney failure two years ago, while Lucas will be 12 later this year.

Seems like 131 caused widespread damage or is it just bad reporting?
