Very impressive line up Noel. Raging I'm going to miss this one. Away the week leading up to it, back on the Sunday

I've recently been working on the SSM kit. It's brass, so a little more work involved in the build. But the detail is fantastic, and in my opinion well worth effort when you see the end result.

It was Irish Freight models that i couldn't find they use to sell finished versions of the SSM models I think
Are they gone now do you know?
Still producing models, but as far as I know you can only order via their Facebook page now. In the past it could be done through the website.

Interesting scenes. Especially liked the craven set in the far background moving on the elevated track section. Some of the tippex baby GMs were not that dirty.
Could be wrong, but they look like Mk2's to me Noel.

Interesting line on the description, "This is an opportunity to get your hands on a very unusual, highly collectable piece of model locomotive history that appears to be sold out everywhere", Locomotive???
What's that I can smell? It's definitely something familiar...A hint of grapes maybe? I've definitely smelt it somewhere before... Ah that's it. It's bullshit.

Jasus is right. What planet are some of these living on. I'll be watching this with interest. If they do manage to offload it to someone deluded enough to buy it, I know what I'll be doing with my one

I normally do but not in this case. I would have to remove the glazing first of mask it very effectively (ie air sealed not just spray blocked) otherwise the glazing could go opaque. So far I've found acrylics fairly stable once cured and reasonably handling proof. It does bring up a separate point though and this is painting or weathering onto plastic instead of onto a painted surface. Weathering powders in particular attach much better to a paint surface than just shiny plastic, and the finest mist of airbrush spray takes to paint much better than plastic. It has been suggested to me that a coat of matt varnish onto raw plastic models may assist when weathering (ie a thin coat of matt varnish provides a better base for paint or powders to key to). Myth or true I know not, but I'll try it out sometime (eg MM Mk2 orange coach roofs).
Varnished or painted surfaces will take the powders alot easier Noel, but it's also harder to remove them if you make a boo boo. They tend to leave a smudge or stain on rougher surfaces, where with a glossy plastic finish they can be a little easier to get off. Depends on the preferred methods of the person using them I suppose, and the type of weathering being applied. Personally I quite like using powders and find them very effective when you can get them to work with you.

Welcome @Ribérac. I still consider myself a relative newbie here. But the guys on here are a friendly bunch, and "a great bunch of lads", much like the Chinese on Fr Ted's Craggy Island.
Careful now...

Still haven't made up my mind as to how this will look when finished. Quite like the used, slightly industrial look of Tullamore. But I'm leaning towards Waterford West, with it's Irish Cement logo.

Absolutely love this layout. It's a perfect example of less is more, and that's meant as a compliment. No fuss, kept simple but finished to a high standard as the picture above shows. This layout just oozes atmosphere and class to go with it.

Impressive for a first attempt. Nice work on the streaking.

Thanks for link. Yellow PW stuff a little too modern for my era and modelling taste buds.
Yes pricey for just two wagons.
Yes Noel, we all know yellow PW stuff isn't your thing. But considering the twin pack was 110 euro a pop when released first, it's not that bad a price compared to what some are asking for them. It's rare they turn up. Like with most things, if someone wants them badly enough they'll pay.

That's an extremely rare visitor to be seen amongst the usual swarm of Diesel Power working on Tara Junction Noel

Personally I quite like the new look. But does it really matter that much, they spend most of the time that far up you can't see what colour they're painted anyway.

In summary primarily a runner, but have ended up collecting quite a bit of stock, but mostly out of their boxes now on the layout, bar stuff queued for weathering, or truth be told by way of confession, some baby GMs packed away in long term storage lest I one day catch the modern era orange bug
Noel, I know how hard you find it to let anything ORANGE contaminate Kingsbridge, other than your Bubbles. So if you fancy shifting any of those modern Baby GM's drop me a line

166 and the Oil Wagons.. I don't think it gets much better than this. Pure filth, and the sound of that GM engine

The huge expectation building up to this years 6 Nations seemed to take it's toll today. Never looked like coming back after going 17-10 down.

They were actually the last of the 071 class to be released by Murphy Models, but sold out in no time. If you didn't get one then, the chances of picking one up now are few and far between. But they do pop up now and again.
