  1. I’m now looking at making up a train of grey/blue stripe coaches for the enterprise train.

With that in mind does anyone know what the interior seating colours would have been on these coaches? The beige colouring of the Lima donor models just doesn’t look right against the grey of the exterior.

Many thanks in advance of any help.

  2. I’ve just received my first Irish loco in the guise of 071 number 085. Knowing nothing about the history of the liveries on these units would someone mind enlightening me as to the period this particular loco ran.

If possible I’d also like to know what sort of stock the loco would have hauled.

    Many thanks in advance.

  3. Whilst the comparisons between operations in Ireland and that of the mainland may be fanciful I would take the positive out of this in that the notions of a better service between both cities is at least being discussed. Will anything change in the near future?  Hard to tell but at least discussions are being had and the railways aren’t being entirely forgotten in favour of roads.

  4. I need to visit Dublin again.  When you mentioned this building I googled it (Jeeves was having a lie down!) to see what it looked like. The skyline of the city has changed dramatically from the last time I was there so for now your layout will have to be my map.

  5. This might prove to be a bit of a long shot but I have a bee in my bonnet in wanting a Murphys Model 071 in the NIR livery. If anyone may be thinking offloading one or would know of someone who is, I’d be very interested in re-homing it.

Please PM me with any info. 🙏

  6. I do love a Parkside Dundas kit and have built a few. More detail than your bog standard Airfix affair and very satisfying, as you say, to see something trundling round the layout built by yourself.

Cambridge Customs do sheets of decals for Airfix and Parkside kits allowing for multiple running numbers, etc to be applied. If you are doing a lot of kits they are very good value for your dolla’.

  7. Thanks for all the feedback chaps. I’ll check Halfords to see if they stock the Ford Monday blue in rattle cans. I don’t have an airbrush and do not want to brush paint.

The Bachmann class 20 chassis, is that any class 20?  Are they all the same?  Ideally I’d like a dcc ready unit to save the hard wiring process.

  8. Having seen this loco today and yesterday at the Bangor show, I fancy getting one. They bare a striking resemblance to the Western and it’s always my favourite loco sitting at Cultra. Looking at the website I see it is available in kit form with the only requirement a Class 20 donar chassis.

Has anyone built one of these kits and if so could they point me in the right direction of the donar chassis required?  Are they as detailed as the MIR kits with the etched brass?  Finally, I’d like to produce it in the blue so is there a suitable option in the Halfords range that would suit?

    Thanks all for any help.

  9. GNR, no apologies necessary, I didn’t make any effort myself. I spent about two hours at the show and it felt like 5 minutes.

Did anyone else see The Belmond sitting at York Road later in the day?  I passed it on my way home at 5.

  10. I think that is possibly the best show yet. The layouts were superb and the trade stands seem to have grown in size. A brief hello with Warbonnet and a nod to Garfield plus a chance to see those bubbles in the flesh. I’m very tempted but I’ve yet to justify how they fit in to my layout. Never got to chat to Leslie but I’m maybe thinking of taking another run down tomorrow. Time took over and I didn’t quite get to see everything.

GNR, sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you. That guy in the station masters outfit was eye catching. I bought a single photo of Ballymena but alas only of the engine shed. If you like pics of old locos though, well he was your man.
