  1. Signing up, as a first step to doing something really. I need a safer pastime so have alighted upon railway modelling, something I had a brief interest in as a child, two HO 'Jouef for Playcraft' trainsets then a couple of years of Railway Modeller/Model Railway Constructor, all now up in the loft. Inspired by memories of travelling by train in Ireland from the 60s onwards, mainly Belfast/Larne ports to Derry but once Dún Laoghaire to Sligo in 1972*, the flat-faced NIR Class 70 and the frowning CIE C Class sum it all up for me. So I have an inkling for an impressionist NIR, ex-NCC, precast concrete, somersault signalled, unfenced, Italianate demolished, Larne line type halt - simple offset loop with siding with a desultory NIR Class 70/104 railcar/freight operation, hulking spoil wagons, Pandoro containers and corrugated RUC station backdrop on something like a 6x1 baseboard. More 80s than 70s, more container flats and cement bubbles than brown vans and ex-carriage underframes, more green corrugated than grey... Impressionist because this may never have actually happened, the product of an overnight traveller’s lack of sleep. Let’s call it Ballyshane NIR. *black crockery in the buffet car, now there’s a detail for you!
  2. Has there ever been a kit for the NCC Courtaulds open wagon? The ready-to-run Dapol A005 LMS 4 plank open is steel underframed while the Ratio 576 LMS 4 plank open kit is wooden underframed but looks just a bit too wrong at the ends. That seems to be it for LMS 4 plank opens, to which the NCC Courtaulds open was closely related. In their later cut down variant the NCC Courtaulds opens are as distinctively NIR as the UTA spoil wagons
  3. My mate Dave Dunn has recently received a collection of slides/negatives etc from a relative of a deceased photographer which will be added to the Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust Archive. All 'big island' images apart from an album containing 17 old postcard prints but no negatives taken in April 1949, mainly on the old NCC at Belfast, York Road. I have added them to ERNIE's Railway Archive although the Copyright is not known,as it is possible that the negatives no longer exist. Does any of the ones below ring a bell ? EDIT : I keep forgetting that if I bung em on here it doesn't display the flickr captions. The shed is Ballymena and the yard York Road. Date for all the photos is 6 April 1949. A couple of the others are Coleraine and there is one at Portrush. Check out the flickr album it also has most of the loco numbers/details. The remainder are in this album https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/albums/72157626750300070
  4. To celebrate St Patrick's Day, a new wagon which could almost be seen from Slemish where the Saint "wrought a few". The Ulstermen (remember we've got him up there!) have been pestering me for years to do a "Brown Van" and today the prototype arrived from the Isle of Wight - Now that I have a couple of sides to send to Steve at Railtec, the next job is the transfers - not a lot, as it happens. The eagle-eyed among the NCC fans will realise that this is the UTA version built in the late 1940s after WW2. The earlier NCC version has a totally different chassis and wheelbase. I should have supplies for Bangor. Happy St Patrick's Day! Now, all of yez get on yer knees and pray all night that The Boys give the English a hammering tomorrow at Twickers!
  5. Hi Folks, Looking to fund a dip into O gauge so looking at flogging some items regrettably (just remembered Stirling Single and Bullied Diesel inbound to O gauge will have to go on hold!) First up is a I imagine a hard to find item these days. Bachmann 32-225Z Class Y Tanks Loco operated by the 'Northern Counties Committee' No.18 Looking for €90.00 plus postage (around €10.00) for this lovely little engine. I have not run it since it was bought and it was only out of the box for the shot. As can be seen the Box has some very slight wear around the edges and the loco is in Mint condition. Can test run it before posting if required. cheers George
  6. Hello everyone, And welcome to my thread about my locos, here I will show all my current models and will add to it when I make more in the future. I am no expert in any way, but with every model I make, i think I'm getting better. (The pictures will be listed in the order they were built) If you have Any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks More will be added in a bit, along with a vid.
  7. Does anyone have any unwanted NCC items in OO which they would like to sell? thanks.
