Yet again, this has me absolutely speechless. I've known this area well since the early 1960s. Your model - it seems inadequate to call it a "model" or a "layout" just sucks me (and others here, I know) right back to those days... pint in Becky Morgans, anyone?
All about the Padraig Pearse now

Remember the republican and loyalist graffiti!
I often imagined a 1980s-based NIR layout with one lot of graffiti on one side of the track and “themmuns” on the other!!
Yes I have thought of that too! Perhaps inner-city south Belfast, lower Ormeau on one side, Donegall Pass on the other, with all the murals and flags on display!

Approx 10 minute video uploaded to Flickr . MALLOW May 2003 featuring 148 on Tralee train , A 201 on the Cork-Platin Bulk MT's but mainly 160 with a set of 8 container flats being loaded by the Crane with some interesting close-ups of the crane mechanisms.
160 then departs for Cork. Flickr is now coping with 10 minute video's but produces a black thumbnail for some of the uploads which is a bit annoying!

Great video, although it would depress you when you look at the way things are now! Were there separate liners from Dublin to Mallow and Cork? Or did the Dublin-North Esk liner just drop off/pick up some containers at Mallow?

Class list! I think the mk3s' last scheduled service was 2009, and the NIR mk2s ran into the early 2000s (I think so anyway as I'm near sure I remember them running past my house in my early childhood years!)

Thanks for all the comments, folks. Would love to visit the area eventually. In the past, have managed to get to Burtonport, Clifden, Achill, Westport and Sligo, so really need to make the effort to go back to the far north west.
If you do get to Belmullet at some point make sure you get to P Healey's and McDonnell's, two of the best pubs in Ireland!

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this! My ma's from round that neck of the woods (Binghamstown) and I would be there regularly enough. Good luck!!

Can't say I ever knew this happened! Anyone know why it was never continued?

Does anyone have any photos of the 141s on this line that they could upload? Didn't realise that it stayed open til the mid 1960s!

If the IWTs go to 24 wagons, and all are 201-hauled, what will the 071s do?
That's what I was wondering... timber trains just?

The 201 fleet are considered and treated as a combined pool so it's 34 total. 12 out of service with 2 returning in the next two years. Give 22 201s available now going up to 24 in 2020 roughly.
There are 8 equipped to work Enterprise services. With 6 needed daily for that including 2 spares and 1 on exam.
Leaves 16 free to work the 7x Mk4 sets, plus spares and exam and overhaul locos. 201s work IWT freight liners from time to time too. 201s will be allocated IWT liners all the time once they go to 24 wagon trains from the current 18.
Plus there's the loco to work the Grand Hibernian in the summer! I wonder will there be a surplus of 071s if 201s will be working all of the IWT liners?

During the early to mid 1990s the HARP brewery in Dundalk operated a number of charter trains from all over the country, North and South using the Irish rail Mk3 Executive train,
On arrival at Dundalk the publicans and their families were treated to a tour of the brewery while being wined and dined on board to and from their locations,
Here we see a selection of photos of the train arriving at Platform one at Tara junction station much to the delight of the waiting publicans,
its a short formation consisting of dining car 7401,Executive coaches 7161+7162 and EGV 7601 all being hauled by an immaculate ex works IR liveried locomotive 080-its first run since repainting.
Great pics and realistic formation too! Pity Harp's not still brewed there, with the old marketing campaign, rather than this "pure here" drivel that they're doing now...

Anyone remember a website called the Drimnagh Road? It was by some fella who took in a load of the last passenger workings by mostly by 071s, to Sligo Galway and Westport etc. Looked it up the other day and it was nowhere to be seen, was disappointed because it was a good aul blog!

Was there any reason the CPWs were used on the Waterford route in particular? Will be sad to see them go if the rumours are true!

What an absolutely incredible layout. Encapsulates inner city Dublin so well! P.s. a couple of Dublin flags hanging out of flat/house windows might be good

This is a shot worthy of note.
An 071 and mk2s would make that photo perfect!

Big issue for me in that they're so readily available, so the attacks can be coming from anyone, such as young children, some of who clearly have no idea how dangerous what they're doing is! Need to be banned outright and more awareness needs to be raised around schools on the potentially fatal consequences.

Ah those two scenes are absolutely parful, fair play Noel!

Fair play Noel, she's looking well!!

Ah that must be it then, cheers!

Been a lot of light engine movements these evenings in Belfast on the Dublin line! Anyone know why this is?

Hope you enjoyed that cherry Wrenniere, just got sorted now thanks to this! Cheers

Excuse the ignorance lads, but what is the blanking plug for a loco? Got 230 for christmas from Hatton's and got a decoder with it, only got round to trying to get it running tonight and the instructions say to remove the blanking plug from the loco socket!

Great to see this layout resurrected!
