Hi all, A couple of my A class locos are having a problem where one of the bogie wheel sets is not turning. I asked about this awhile ago and I think Fran mentioned that the drive shaft probably required a little glue, as it was slipping and not engaging. Has anyone else had this problem? I opened up one of the locos to check but was afraid to dismantle the whole assembly. I thought it would be easy enough to get to the shaft piece. Thanks Brendan

That should read A class wheels, not shells…my fat fingers

Hi all,

One of my A class locos is not powering the stay alive capacitor. The unit runs ok on the track, but when removed , the power stops right away. Anyone know if this could be related to some decoder cv settings?

Hi,
I just purchased a sound chip from DCkits for my MM 071 loco. When I received the chip it had a detached speaker included in the box and a a square piece attached/wired to the chip. Does anyone here know what the attached square piece is for? The  chip did not come with any install instructions and I know that the Murphy 071 loco already has a speaker installed. See pic below.

Hi all, I have a question on the existing sound chips for Murphy models. I have ordered a MM 567 sound chip for my 121 class loco. I was wondering if this chip could also be used for the MM 141 class, or even the 071 class for that matter. Is there much of a difference in engine sound between the various GM locos? Sound chips are so expensive so it would be great if one chip could work for several classes.

Sorry! Forgot to add some detail about how this tram landed in SoCal. The museum plan to run the tram on the museum track which consists of a few miles of track. I was told that they have to raise the height of the upstairs siding to meet safety regulations. Looking forward to taking a trip on it when it’s up and running.

Hi all,

I have several a class locos and I’m very pleased with the look and performance of the model. However, I have a problem with one of the locos where power is not going to one of the bogies. I contacted IRM and they told me that it may be a popped out drive shaft problem. I hate the thought of opening up the  loco and was wondering if anyone on here has done any loco surgery on the model.

I have received all of my “A” class beauties. I must say my favorite livery is the silver version. The incredible detail really pops. Have a question on decoders for the As. I’m awaiting the arrival of the DCC decoders from the IRM site but I did try to use a spare 21 pin TCS decoder I had and I was unable to make it work. I have used these decoders in the past for Murphy models 071, 141 without any problems. Are the IRM decoders the only ones that will work for the As?

I have a question on the ballast wagons used on Irish rail. We’re these wagons also used for gypsum haulage? Looking at photos they appear to be the same type of wagon. If so, I can run my train of IRM wagons without the yellow ballast front and end plough wagons. Happy new year to all......Brendan

Thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunately, I can’t take credit for building this layout. I was lucky enough to find it on eBay several years ago. It was built by an Boeing engineer who frequently travelled to the uk on business and got interested in the British railway scene. I did add some Irish structures and added street and building lights. I run MM gm locos with both passenger , freight and some cattle wagons. I bought most of the freight stock from Marks models in Dublin. The passenger cars are Cravens coaches and some Park royals I bought from Irish freight models. On many of my passenger coaches I added people and lighting (train tech coach lighting). These lighting strips are easy to add and are powered by battery. I used woodland scenic led lights for street and building lights. Again, ‘plug in’ type lights that are easy to setup. I also have some of the new cement bubbles and ballast wagons from IRM. Expensive models, but beautifully detailed. All of my locos are chipped running on dcc. I live in southern California, so I don't get to see much of the Irish stuff in real life. Looking forward to the MM 121 class release, and  hopefully a release of some metro vickers before the next ice age. Regards and best wishes for the new year.
