The JML magnifying glasses work well and are cheap at ten quid. You can wear them over your own glasses (Repair Shop style). They come with rechargeable LED lights too.

Also have one of those headband magnifiers, though not as comfortable.

A key thing for me is lighting, preferably the same as I will display under, so I have an LED strip over the workbench and layout, with LED spotlights on the ceiling too.

Thanks for that info. I will get a set of the magnifying glasses and try them. There is good illumination from LED ring light I have but probably worth getting additional illumination.

Its been 4 years and I still haven't gotten around to repainting the seats a less fisher price colour.  These are superb coaches on the exterior sadly lacking in authentic upholstery colours, black heads and floors, etc. Hopefully while I'm at it will put in lighting and passengers.

    Thanks Noel,

Those photos are very useful, to be able to see where the tabs are located.

  3. Thanks Robert,

I contacted Silver Fox about buying a GSV but they never responded so I have bought a Bachmann mk1 BSK on ebay with the view to modify sides and build additional items. I have gathered some exterior photos online but can't find any interior shots. Without detailed photos there will be some guesswork on dimensions but hopefully I can put some reasonable drawings together for the modifications.

I will check out Railtec and SSM for the transfers.

  4. I am planning to build a GSV based on the ex BR MK1 BSK coach and am having difficulty in finding decent side profile photos.  Does anyone know if such pictures exist or if there are any drawings available?

Is 3185 accessible to take photos?  I understand it belongs to the RPSI but their website states it is at Inchicore.

I purchased Murphy Models Cravens coach MM1504 on ebay.co.uk and received it today to find a 1533 coach in a MM1504 box. It's re-packaged ready to return to the seller tomorrow. If anyone looking at buying a MM1504 coach just beware in case this comes up for sale again.  Picture in ad was not clear enough to see the number on the side of the carriage, this is picture I took.image.thumb.jpeg.55202d126f28d74b22ffc1086311e2b6.jpeg

Box lids probably put on wrong boxes by accident so worth getting clear pics of carriages to check numbers before buying( I should take my own advice...). Cost of some Cravens carriages on ebay are eye watering.

  7. What would be the best starting point for creating a model of the mk3 DVT 6105? Are there any BR units that could be modded easily?  I believe 6105 is stored at Moyasta so I was thinking of maybe taking a trip down and get detailed photos. Although I wonder what state it is currently in...

Studio Scale Models have a Mk3 DVT windows kit, is this intended to be used on a standard mk3 coach?

  8. I purchased the following two sets of Tara Mines ore wagons from Marks Models recently but am changing my project plans so am looking to sell:

    IRM1030-BX-F (31002, 31008)

    IRM1030-BX-G (31005, 31010)

These are new, and were just taken out of their boxes for inspection.

I would be looking for €65 each plus P&P. Thanks.

  9. Thanks lads, I should have asked here before buying from Amazon/eBay. I had ordered a similar unit through Amazon UK but An Post returned it due to incomplete customs information to the vendor(present location unknown, probably will have to do chargeback on my card) and the unit I ordered from eBay is still showing it hasnt been shipped after several days so probably another no-show.

    Third time luck I hope.
