  1. Have only been to a few shows but can now see why so many comments about Wexford being the best one around, great show, lots of friendly people willing to share their knowledge with a few complete novices. Many thanks to Brendan Buckley of Garrison Model Club who let me in around their displays to take a few photos and see how a few things were put together and also for all the tips and advice. Got chatting to a few people from the Wexford Club who also shared a bit of their knowledge. Just need to get a room cleared in the other halves house and put up our baseboards and start putting all this new found knowledge into practise.

Started anoter thread with some photos from today

  2. Was looking into this again over Christmas and noticed they now have a way of purchasing tickets online via a ticket sales website, adds €3 or €4 to the price per ticket but kids tickets not available this way, they need to be purchased via post

  3. This might be of interest to people, it's a 5 part series starting on Channel 4 on January 7th @ 8pm. A group of people build a model railway across Scotland in the hope of setting a World Record

  4. That would be a great help in starting on the layout with the other half, she has been collecting up bits over the last number of years but never did anything to get a layout sorted....things have changed since we met earlier this year and plans are afoot to get something put together in the new year.

Just a query on that 6x4 baseboard could the catch on one side be done differently in order to facilitate a second 6x4 baseboard being added at a later date to create a 6x8 setup???

  5. Itching to get started on building up baseboards for the other halfs layout but was wondering what sizes to do them. We're planning an 8ft x 6ft layout so would 4 4x3 boards or 2 6x4 boards be advisable?? The layout won't be getting moved once setup and will be in the middle of a room so plenty of space to walk around it.

Also what is the preferred height for layouts?? There will be kids allowed in to look at it operating but under supervision

  6. I see there was work being done on the forum but as of this morning when browsing on the phone I can't access 2nd or subsequent pages on any threads, the following error appears.

"Warning: Illegal string offset 'name' in [path]/includes/functions.php on line 6845

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at [path]/includes/class_core.php:5698) in [path]/includes/functions.php on line 4370"

I'm viewing on Opera mobile and looking at the mobile version of the forum

  7. I remember when £5 on the box was €7.50 man!

Silver Fox items should look very attractive price wise this weekend with the current rate

Sterling is also acceptable, as is Yen, Dollars Brown Envelopes .........

    Empty brown envelopes accepted?????😂

  8. But shur real world exchange rates never apply to those shows £5 on the box - "that'll be €7.50 please...." :P

Always handy to have a few quid Sterling in the pocket just in case the seller isn't working off the current exchange rate ;):D

  9. Managed to get time to sort out a few photos from Saturday, most of them are just for trying to get a few ideas and see how things were done on displays

    Peter,

Thanks for putting that super slideshow up - great stuff and worth a look, as you say, for ideas.

I commend it to the rest of you - a good use of a quarter of an hour!

    Leslie

Thanks for the comment Leslie, I'll take a bit more time at the show in Dublin at the end if October to get a few more detailed shots of displays, might bring the big camera as the ones from last weekend were taken with the pocket camera

  10. Wow, first time to attend a model rail exhibition, headed up the road early this morning with the other half who is the one with the main model rail interest. Thoroughly enjoyed looking around the various displays and picked up a few more bits for our display when we get round to constructing it. Got a few ideas and some advice on how to go about the display too. Looking forward to the Dublin show at the end of October.

Most impressed by the Lisburn, Quarry Hill and Impressions of Ireland displays
