With thanks to Iarnród Éireann, Táilte Tours are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Great Southern Railway in November 1924 with a special commemorative railtour, comprising of a day trip from Dublin to Killarney and back, but with a twist. On the outbound journey we will be taking a quick detour into Limerick Check, marking the first time a mkIV carriage set has operated over this line with passengers (and indeed, a the first ever passenger working of a mkIV set into Limerick). The train will be hauled by a 201 class, now rare visitors to the Kerry and Limerick lines.
This tour promises to be a relaxing day out using Intercity standard carriages and with catering trolley service on board, offering passengers the chance to indulge in some pre-Christmas shopping in Killarney while taking in the beautiful sights of the Kerry line from a comfortable express train. For railway enthusiasts, this tour offers are a rare chance to experience mkIV carriages on the branchlines to Limerick and Kerry, with 201 class locomotives also now being rare visitors to these locations.
