  1. Here's a MGWR 20 ton brakevan I've been working on. It's a convertion from an LNER 20 ton brakevan that I bought a few years back. It's far from perfect but it looks the part 158962984462530025378.thumb.jpg.337e9d0ee872d3b12de4cf5b2838fc0f.jpg

  2. Hey all,

Due to the corona virus I have a lot of spare time to model.

I'm currently working on a MGWR 12 ton locomotive coal wagon and I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the MGWR timber wagons as there were none in Ernie shepherds book. Any pictures of  other 'unique' wagons like the butter vans or the 40 ton bogie rail wagons. I will post pictures of the coal wagon later.

    Hi Jonathan,

many thanks for the info - the LNER J72 conversion sounds like a reasonable first step, although whether it would be accurate enough to be acceptable in the long term would remain to be seen. I think a comparison of drawings might be in order! The K Class sound a bit too late for my period, which is a shame as anything that eases the path has got to be a good thing, hasn't it? Having had a skim through Ernie Shepherd's book, some of the 4-4-0s seem to bear a family resemblance to Furness Railway and Cambrian Railways locos of the same configuration, so perhaps there is scope there for investigation. John Mayne's kits look absolutely superb, and my concern from a personal perspective is that I'm not able to do them justice - I might have to sell a kidney and get them built by someone who knows what they're doing!

Incidentally, although this is definitely a case of "getting ahead of myself", and given that I'm planning a branch line which would have largely been worked by members the E Class, and given that this would be stretching plausibility to breaking point and beyond, which class(es) of locos would have been turned out in the blue livery? I do realise that they were types that would not have ventured down branchlines, but it seems like too good an opportunity to miss, and it could be a running-in turn 😄

I'm quite happy with the idea of scratchbuilding carriages, and from that point of view, a six-wheeler is less work than a bogie! I know of several folk over on RMWeb who design and print their own stuff, and some sell as well to help finance their own modelling. I wonder if it might be an option to approach them and see if they'd be prepared to take on a commission to make some really good carriages. What does everyone think?

    With kind regards,

    Mark

I believe someone called Sparkshot Custom Creations on shape ways sells 3d prints of the furness railway k2. Maybe one of them might work for a convertion?

  4. Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any drawings of the MGWR A, C, K , G2 or L classes. If anyone has drawings of wagons or carriages as well could you send them to me,

    Thanks.

    How long is the layout?

I'm not necessarily making anything permanent atm, I'm mainly just building the station along with locomotives and rolling stock. Once I have everything built then I will start to put it together

    Hey Jack

MOATE STATION IN 1920! I have all the drawings of the station when they did a survey in 2015 I think. Modaling Moate in 1920 would be hard as it is impossible to get any drawings of a A or C class (steam engines) I live near Moate and have surveyed the station a million times so I was going to model it myself in O gauge. If you want any help please just ask as I know people who could get you inside the station. If you need pics join the IRRS as they have lots of photos of the area.

He it's a pity those pictures are hard to come by. Can you send on those photos as I need something to keep the boredom at bay during this virus

The book is available here Jack for £15 all in, which is pretty good. It also includes a few drawings so you can build your own wagons etc. It’s a good resource for such a serious project - and costs less than a Hornby wagon! https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&cm_sp=SearchF-_-home-_-Results&an=Shepherd+&tn=Midland+great+western+&kn=&isbn=

    Thanks

  7. Hi all, I am planning to model moate station in oo gauge during the early to mid 1920s. I was wondering if anyone has any drawing or diagrams of the station at that point. I was also wondering what locomotives were used there in the time period I'm modelling. When did the MGWR stop painting engines blue and when did they repaint all the engines and coaches. What coulors was the station panted. I would appreciate all help and information.
