1. Looks great Tom-a lot of work put in to it,I'll be in touch when you finalise the price etc..

    Thanks Fellas !

As has been mentioned earlier, look at the wagon overhang from the bogies, there is very little on the 42, but several feet on the 47, always a quick way to ident the model and prototype !

  2. Hi guys

I thought I replied to this earlier but it doesnt seem to have posted or perhaps posted somewhere else.

Just wanted to thank you lads for the replies. I will look into the various different places to buy in the next few days.

Also just wanted to say how incredible the models are here on the site. Its amazing the detail that can be reproduced. I would be hopeless at that sort of thing, hence im looking for a finished model.

I forgot to mention that really I would only require a train/carraige for display rather than actual use on a track but if they can only be sourced for actual use on a track, then obviously that would be fine.

    Finally, I have two more questions;

    1)

Again this video is taken only about 100m from my house. I notice that the train is iriah rail 071 class 087. Can someone explain to me what these numbers stand for?

    2) As I mentioned previously, the gypsum train used to travel on this line. I was wondering has anybody any info on this train or are there any links on the website about it? (I have already saw a few of the links on the site about it). Also has anybody ever made a model of those wagons? I always thought they were quite unusual with the pink material they carried

    Thanks

    Regards

    Brian

    Hi Guys

Before reading this post, please pardon my ignorance as I know basically nothing about trains/model trains.

    I've joined this forum to try and find out some information about the following;

I live in a place called Beauparc in Co Meath. My house is built almost on the tara mines to Drogheda railway and I ve always wanted to get a model of the train (or a very similar train), and carraiges if possible which are used by the mines. This would be for display purposes only. With the recent rumours of the mines closing, I thought it would be nice to have a model as who knows when the train will stop running on this line, as was the case with the other train who once used the same line, to transport material from Gypsum in Kingscourt.

As I said, I don't have a clue about trains/model trains so if anybody could provide me with the type of train/carraiges and name of a shop or website which I may obtain a model from, I would greatly appreciate it. I ve sent a few emails around to ask others for info relating to this.

    Also if anybody is interested in seeing a video of the train passing my house/travelling through the local area, I can get it and post it. The following link is taken very close to my house but was not taken by me;

    Thanks

    Regards

    Brian

Re: Irish Freight models post above,

That is great news on the multi-pack front. I also wasn't aware that you had the 20's available in kit form. I cannot stress enough the importance of a forum like this for discussion and constructive criticism, and don't forget praise too! It is great to see people like Tom from IFM coming on here and giving some input, and taking on board what is going on. I admire your attitude, and you have brought a great suite of models to the market in the past couple of years. The more attractive the market is (Irish Railway modelling) then the more people take an interest and costs can start to come down for all of us.

    Dave

  6. Hi Train Model,

We recently announce our intention to roll out multipacks across irishfreightmodels.com, bringing down the cost of models significantly, the 20' skeletal, (which is a perfect match for a 20' bell container) is one of those models we would hope to be included in these offers.

So please keep an eye on the site for that, or better still sign up to the newsletter and we will drop the info direct into your inbox regularly !

Our purchase power is increasing allowing us to pass on the savings to irish modellers, and as is very much our policy, bring irish modelling to a wider audience than before.

I should also point out that this item is available in kit form also here

In the meantime fell free to contact us at irishfreightmodels.com to discuss your needs

I'm always surprised how often this question comes up, and also the fact that, in my opinion anyways, there is no obvious answer! Options appear to be:

    1. Irish Freight Models RTR 20' and 22' chassis. http://www.irishfreightmodels.com/index.php/shop.html#!/~/product/category=3461290&id=15166615

They look like a superb model, but at €30 each, I certainly could not justify a rake, a set of 10 will set you back €300 before you even think of putting a container on!

    2. In the past members on here appear to be using Dapol's Prestwin Silo kit. The frame appears to be around the 20' length, and doesn't look out of place on an Irish layout. Currently showing £5.40 on Hattons, so I guess a rake of 10 will cost around €100, allowing for cement, paint, kits, glue etc. Here is a post from the old site: http://irishrailwaymodeller.yuku.com/reply/11297/20-Container-Flats#reply-11297

    3. Other options are to use RTR hornby wagons which come in at a scale length of 25'-26' as far as I can see. Hornby #R6372 is €4 on Hattons, and I've used some of these in the past as I simply hadn't got the funds for anything else. Rake of 10 works out at about €60- wagons, paint and p&p.

    4. Brass kits. I think some of the member are developing, or may already have produced, a brass kit version. Maybe some one could clarify?

When I put my business hat on, I'm surprised that no one has come up with a 'simplified' version, that would represent a 22' Irish wagon for those of us on a budget, or who might enjoy an RTR model thats balances detail with price. A €10 to €12 price point would slot in with the Hornby Railroad Range/Bachmann Branchline Range, and would sell in the hundreds. Would also encourage younger modellers into the hobby and allow them build up a selection of stock without breaking the bank. Anyways, that's my own personal opinion. Anyone who's looked at this before- would love to hear your opinions or experiences.

    Dave

  8. Great to see these very distinctive Irish wagons are available again after MRI retired from the modelling scene. I have been told the heavy weight of the MRI wagons was the one drawback of their models and I was wondering if IFM (Irish Freight Models) have overcome this on their models.

    Thanks Fellas !

We tried to get a balance between strength and weight, but given their sheer bulk, they are weighty, still i believe they will be hauled well by an MM loco but a hornby chassis A class may struggle a little on a full rake, we shall see.

They are an imposing wagon alright.

GM171, We will be looking to offer a wagon pack, eg, 3 tankers, 1 barrier maybe !, half a rake

Keep an eye on my site for updates.

  9. Hi All,

  10. Hi all,

  11. 20 foot four wheel container wagon

Thinking one day that my 20 foot Bell containers from C-Rail were rather too nice NOT to ride the rails, I placed an order with Tom Brady of Irish Freight Models for a pair of his 20 foot Skeletal Container wagons kits. The kits are mixed media plastic and whitemetal kits that any idiot can build, and so it proved :)

The 'chassis' is cast pretty much as one, up on which you attach the rather nicely formed whitemetal detailing. A quality set of metal wheelsets were supplied as were a set of Bachmann couplings - you'll notice the wagons are still missing their supplied numbers, give me time, give me time!

I'll admit the wagons are almost TOO nice to hide under a container, almost :)

The Bell container is exquisite 'nuff said.

That's enough evidence of my bodging for one day ;)

    -Rob

    Hi Rob,

your numbers were sent last week, let me know if they dont arrive please

Well done on all your efforts !

  12. Hi all,

Irish Freight Models are pleased to announce the release of our Amficon Grain Wagon.(ex Tara Mines Type)

Having been in the pipeline for some time we are happy to have it available to order here.

    http://www.irishfreightmodels.com/index.php/shop#!/~/product/category=3942002&id=14677500

Its a continuation of our policy to model not only the better known wagons, but also the lesser known types, enabling greater variation on customer layouts.

    kind regards

    Tom
