    From Irish Railfans' News:

Ballylinan & Palace East: On Saturday July 9 loco 184 (in GS&WR livery) headed the first IRRS dining car special ever out of Amiens Street. The train consisted of HV 3122, second 1469, ex GNR dining car C144N, brake second 1905 and the 1912 GS&WR Officers’ Saloon 352. The special travelled first to Athy and then diverged to traverse the 4½ mile Ballylinan branch - the first occasion of a dining car working on this line! The train returned to Athy and continued to Muine Bheag to travel over another semi-closed branch to Palace East - the subject of “Station Survey” in this issue. The return trip to Amiens Street was made via Macmine Junction and Enniscorthy.

Thank you for the details.  This confirms the presence of the B5 Dining Car in the train.

  3. As Galteemore has just mentioned, The GNRI J Class 4-4-0 locomotive drawings are available.  I also have drawings for the GNRI outside framed 1700 gallon tender.

  4. David,

May I suggest a quicker solution.  Take a piece of Springy wire and use it instead of a thick brass pivot arm.  The wire could be looped around the screw holding the Keeper Plate in position and the other end pushed through a small hole in the Stretcher of the Bogie.  It should help steer the locomotive better through the curves.

  5. David,

Don’t bother other than on locomotives.  The safety chains were even a pain in the rear in 15mm scale, (when I used to dabble in that scale).

Love the look of the open wagon by the way.

  6. Airfixfan,

Does the CDR diagram book contain details of locomotives, carriages and wagons?

Has the Museum ever considered having it copied digitally?

  7. As requested, I have created a Word document listing what is available as CAD drawings.

    Drawing List 09022024.docx

There are two sample drawings as PDF’s.  These are not to scale, but are provided to show a basic drawing in my collection against a full detailed diagram.  As I progress, drawings will be adjusted to the fully detailed versions.  On the list, fully detailed drawings are indicated by the # symbol after the class identifier.

    L2 Not to Scale Sample.PDF

    M2 CBM021 Not to scale sample.PDF
As mentioned above, pricing is currently in Sterling, but I will look at options, probably by PayPal or Bank Transfer.

    Kind regards

  8. I’m currently having the same problem.

I am attempting to log in from the Laptop, but the password isn’t recognized.  Tried to reset, but it says my security doesn’t match?  It maybe slow internet???

Currently, the account is locked for 15 minutes.  Pity as I have a list of drawings and samples to upload on my Drawing thread!

  9. Thank you for the encouragement.

I do not currently have anything drawn for the BCDR.  However, I do have GA’s for some of the locomotives and I do have details of the 6 wheel carriages sold by the GNRI.

I’m half way through compiling the list, which is dominated by the GNRI and CDJRC.  In the background, I have information for the LLSR and some GSR locomotives, plus I have an entire folder with Beyer Peacock information I need to refresh myself on.

    Kind regards

  10. Dear All,

    Thank you for your responses.

The diagrams I create are in the style of drawings found in Model Railway magazines.  Initially, they were for my own benefit, but I have realised after nearly 20 years, I have quite a collection.  Consequently, I’m slowly going back through them to add more details.  I have copies of Isinglass drawings, (for the LNER), in my collection and use these as inspiration.

My work is not duplicating what Richard and his team have produced, in fact if I hadn’t come into contact with him and Leslie several years ago at the Warley show, I wouldn’t know as much as I do now.  In fact at some point I need to acquire the disks for the other companies rolling stock.

With regard to sizes and prices, initially I was intending supply drawings as PDF documents for a purchaser to print off.  I live out in Romania with my family and concluded this was the easiest method.  I can rescale drawings to any of the common scales and supply files accordingly to fit A4 sheets.  I could supply printed drawings, but packaging and postal charges are currently unknown, plus I need to locate a Print shop near to my location, should sizes larger than A4 be required.  As an example, a year ago I resized the diagram for the GNRI class A to 7mm scale for Galteemore.  If I recall correctly, this ended up on three or four A4 sheets of paper.
As for prices, I was considering £7.50 for a locomotive, (with tender, as appropriate), and £6.00 for a carriage, scaled to 4mm / 1 Foot.  Please let me know if this is reasonable?

JHB, if you have any details, I would greatly appreciate them.  I have also received information from Seagoebox, with some more promised.  It’s a shame Steve Rafferty has passed on, he may have liked what I have done and maybe helped with some details, especially Dining Cars.

Finally, give me a little time to get the list reasonable, so that is easier to read through and I’ll see if I can attach a carriage drawing without breaking the upload limit.

Once again, thank you for your reactions.

    Kind regards

    Paul

p.s. Galteemore, I do have a works GA for a J class and a very basic CAD file.

  11. Hello everyone,

I have been working for some years now, creating drawings of various CDRJC, GNRI, locomotives and carriages.  I have collected numerous original diagrams and work from these and photographs to produce my work.
Currently, I’m updating my diagrams for the PP 4-4-0.  Initial basic diagrams are now being updated to include as much detail as possible, (where I have the information).

I have collected material for several other Irish companies and over time hope to produce detailed drawings for some of these too.

Would members of this forum, be interested in purchasing PDF files of my work?

    Kind regards

  12. I presume business interests get involved as they believe it gives access to grants from Government or the EU, from which they will be able to benefit?  When it drives the volunteers away and the costs mount, the business interests drift away.

As for the image of number 5, it appears to have been dismantled for overhaul?  The boiler and smokebox have been lifted out of the frames.

  13. Looking at colour photos of the Swilly, all the operational locomotives ended up Dark Green by the time of closure.  I’ll admit, I’ve not looked specifically for No.4, but if it was working in the late 40’s, I suspect it would be green.

  14. Hello David,

I feel your pain.  I watched a video recording from the Portsmouth show and it looks like several layouts had similar issues at baseboard joints.  It just makes you appreciate how much wood moves depending on the conditions.

  15. Dear All,

I’m currently researching the GNRI carriages that were altered to run with the BUT Railcars.

I’m looking for any photos of those converted to accommodate the Heating Boiler, especially the two F16’s that were rebuilt.  I’m trying to see what alterations were made at roof level and the position of the fuel tank, if not fitted internally?

Also, I’ve seen mention of the D3, number 396 that was altered by CIE, being at Mallow in the 1980’s?  I’ve seen a rough drawing added to the Dundalk Diagram book, but it causes more questions than answers? Is there any photographs?

    Kind regards

    Paul
