A Model Railway Abroad

Havn't been able to work on the model railway at home for the past while because I have been living in a big old house just outside of Salzburg, Austria over the last two months. While the place may be falling apart, the rents cheap and I have free reign of a massive un used garage, full of tools and spare plywood. I decided that between working and enjoying the slower lifestyle of Austria, I would make myself a little railway diorama. 

The track either brought from home in the suitcase or was given to me by a model railway club in a small town called Deutslandsberg, near Graz. Scenic pieces like ballast, small tunnel portals and static grass are a fair bit cheaper here at only around 3 euro a piece, but a new loco of decent size would set you back much more than second hand Hornby or Bachmann. The hornby 0-4-0, the blue wagon, and the trees I brought from home as well, all put in a tiny box. The diesel and other rolling stock I bought second hand for around 20 euro. 

The terrain was made from cutting up an old sheet and stapling it to the wood. It ended up very sturdy with a layer of PVA glue and real soil go give it a realistic appearance. Its not boing to run or anything, but I hope to give it away to a local club before I leave. The whole thing was fun to build, cost me basically nothing and was just a way of getting my fix of model trains while I'm away. Will put up another post when its near finished.
