Auto-Train Original Posted September 8 Posted September 8 (edited) The best decision. There was never a case for this being reopened. https://www.rte.ie/news/connacht/2026/0908/1590681-sligo-greenway/ Edited September 8 by Auto-Train Original 2 4
west_clare_wanderer Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Agreed. Best use of the alignment for the foreseeable future. But it protects it on the slim prospect that there is ever a need/push to reopen it. 3
Northroader Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) I do like the look of the scenery in that short video. Something I ought to try and copy. (Not with the young trees growing up thro the track, mind.) Edited September 9 by Northroader 1
StevieB Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago With the imminent completion of the double tracking of the the line to Midleton, we’ll have to see how the case for re-opening of the line onwards to Youghal deals with the greenway currently occupying the alignment. The greenway should have been built to allow reinstatement of the line on half of the double track alignment but I doubt it. Stephen 1

Stephen I was under the impression that the whole point of the Greenway concept was that the two would be compatible side by side, if it ever came to pass. Whether the practice is anything like the theory, who knows! There's bound to be a saga! Edited 8 hours ago by west_clare_wanderer Spelling 1
