A fair number in the companion GSWR book, but these vary enormously in utility for modelling purposes - not all are dimensioned. @seagoebox will be able to advise!

Collected a copy today and have emailed the BRILL editor

A very poor, and vague article, lots of errors... why oh why did the author or the editors of British railways Illustrated Magazine let this one through without somebody with the most basic knowledge check it first?  Since when did Portrush become Port Rush?, "RPSI Tri-composite coach no 861 is associated with the NCC  as it was used in departmental liveries of both CIE and UTA", what is that about?????????... now where are my blood pressure tablets!

  6. You are all a bit wide of the mark.... MED's, CIE Park Royals, BUT cars went into the quarry at Crosshill near Crumlin.

It was the cab end of 80 class driving trailer No. 741, damaged beyond repair in a firebomb attack at Balmoral 19.9.1979

These two pictures were taken at Magheramorne (note spelling !) on 18.5.1980 after the rest of it was scrapped.img067.thumb.jpg.cabcf744bd1810db96cbf12a7988452d.jpgimg068.thumb.jpg.39b33c1eacc5a7d86323a10a319f5d57.jpg

The cab end was kept in case it might be needed for accident repair, it was not and was cut up at Magheramorne.

  7. 1st September 1897, Adare (dep 10am) to Newtownstewart (arr 8pm), 4th September Newtownstewart to Newtownards via Derry/ Londonderry & Belfast. The BNCR provided their coaches, nos 8&9 from Waterside to Newtownards, the BCDR provided their specially bult saloon (no 153) for a day trip from Newtownards to Newcastle and return on the 6th,  also for the last leg from Newtownards to Belfast on the 8th.

There is an article "Royal Travel in Ireland" by DB McNeill in the IRRS Journal, vol 16, (October 1988) pages 426- 446 & 455

Some details of specific vehicles for each company are written up there.

  8. The first regular timetabled cross-Border use of the 2600's was with the introduction of the new timetable on 15th May 1995 (although it had been running for a few weeks prior)  A set of 2600's (usually 3 x 2) left Dundalk on Sundays at 17.10 to Portadown arr. 17.55. The set then returned to Connolly as the 18.10 calling at Newry, Dundalk and Drogheda (plus Mosney 21st May to 27th Aug).

Around this time passenger numbers were steadily increasing between Belfast and Dublin, this railcar working was designed to ease pressure on the already heavily loaded 18.15 from Belfast, the railcar continued on this roster until the new timetable on 1st September 1997 when a new 17.30 from Belfast replaced the railcar working, calling at Portadown at 18.15/17 and taking much the same path to Connolly.

These three images were taken at 1) Poyntzpass, 2) Portadown, 3) departing Portadown for Connolly on Sunday 8th May 1995
