  1. Something like http://www.kickstarter.com might be a useful channel to use for funding such a project, but as Riversuir226 says, you would probably need either a society with an elected committee or an established retailer to back such a venture, before any of the manufacturers would even discuss such a venture. Dapol would be the most likely bet, or maybe Realtrack Models.

  2. Thanks Mayner. Will check out that site and also the Dapol Prestwin kit. GM171 I am thinking of sourcing the parts to make the tank from Plastruct items, as they supply the cylinder and also the dome shaped ends. Thanks again lads. Not the easiest way to do it, but then I suppose if I make one suitable looking tank, I can always check out casting it to make copies of it, as would certainly be the easier option rather than making each tank individually.

  3. I want to have a go at scratchbuilding some bubble cement wagons and was wondering if the wagon guru's on here can point me in the direction of suitable commercially available parts such as leaf springs, j irons, w irons, levers that would be close in looks to those on the bubble cement wagons. Thanks.

  4. Considering MIR were able to produce reasonably detailed and accurately dimensioned kits all those years ago, some of the offerings available at present for quite large sums of money are nothing short of a joke. The later kits produced by MIR were class e.g. ammonia wagons, and this is the level that any new kit should aspire to, or even higher. The prices that some people are charging for inaccurate and dimensionally incorrect models that are also devoid of detail is unreal. I'd rather spend €50 on Plastruct/Evergreen items and give a go at scratchbuilding. I only hope that any future wagon kits that anyone intends to release hit the mark and compliment the excellent details on Murphy Models items.

  5. Have a MM0112 and MM0071 for sale. Both brand new and unused. MM0112 now surplus as 8113 being shortly released and MM0071 was a present, but have too many in that livery.

Also have Mk2 black roofed restaurant coach, now surplus to requirements.

    071 are €140 each plus €10 P&P.

    Mk2 is €35 plus €5 P&P.

Payment by Paypal only or will accept cash if collecting from me.

    Can supply pictures if required.

    PM if interested. Thanks.

  6. Good pics Richie. Both wagons look to be same length which is a start. I will hopefully have a drawing of the Tara wagons shortly, so will be in a position to confirm measurements for that wagon type then.

Also, note the two panels at the end i.e. the panel with the wagon number painted on also are slightly thinner than the other panels.

    Shale Wagons:

I made up this "profile" of the shale wagons from a video I took coming outta Limerick. Kid.

None of the panels are the same size it would appear, the central ones being slightly wider.

    Tara Mines:

Anto took this photo, and mighty useful it is. The outer spars are beefy, the central ones thinner. But the differences between the two wagons is clear.

All I need now is someone to confirm the dimensions, and I'll do a drawing of both.

    Richie.

  7. Looking for shale and two bagged cement variant drawings if anyone has them. Willing to reimburse any costs associated with providing me with a copy.

Richie - I'm nearly sure that length wise and width wise, the shale and Tara wagons are identical as seem to be based on the same basic wagon design. Not too sure about the height though as only have pics of shale with a 141/181 loco, but height of shale wagon top surround metal strip comes just above the top white line at the side cab window on an IE liveried 141/181 class loco.

  8. Would just like to add that any of the modern type model freight wagons previously produced by MIR would be of interest. Majority of the Murphy Models loco's and coaches are from the IR or IE period (i.e. 1987-date), so I would imagine that any freight that ran over that period would sell and would be the most popular, but obviously some wagons would be more poular than others. I base this on the fact that you can still but MM CIE liveried locos and coaches in some dealers, but other more modern liveries sold out within months of being released by MM. Just my ten cents.
