  1. Its been far too long since I posted any update here. I needed an engine shed for my dockyard/loco stabling area so I decided to scratchbuild one. I've made a start on the frame and included a few pics below. The roof will be the most difficult part I imagine.

  2. Dhu, there is this weird thing about the Craven coach colours that no-one seems to have mentioned-the orange on both the black and tan variant and the tippex version is identical - that rascal mr. Murphy! So perhaps not the bext benchmark?

Shouldn't they be the same? I always thought the only change to Craven's from the B&T livery to the IR/IE livery was the addition of the 2 white 3-inch strips above and below the black band. As far as I'm aware the mk3's and possibly the Galway mk2's were the only coaches to carry the brighter 'orange' livery but I could be very wrong there! :)

  3. It would have to be a 121 or an A Class for me too. A 121 with a Mk3 Push-Pull set would be brilliant :)

One of the main issues I can see with this is that; if the main delay in MM producing a 121 is the lack of funds due to unsold stock, there is the dilemma that a new model may attract more sales away from models already on the shelves.

  4. In the 70s I remember walking across the fields to that station the odd day after school. The CIE staff back in those days gave me free reign to walk about the station, track and sidings, as well as teaching me much about their operations back then. This thread is a blast from the past.

Definitely Newbridge alright. The new ticket office just doesn't fit in with the existing buildings. I also used to travel to and from school in Newbridge so this station has mixed feelings. Before that my father used to bring us down to watch the trains on a regular basis. I remember the station master at the time (about 20 years ago) was a gentleman and used to show us around the buildings because he knew my grandfather from the Sallins signal box.

I've only ever had the one with the tank but I have heard it from the "experts" of which I'm not one  that it makes a difference.

Maybe its just with certain types of paint ?

Its not that much extra for a compressor with a tank.

I think when they talk about a tank they mean an air reservoir which gives a more steady stream of air rather than the 'pulses' of air coming straight from a compressors piston. As Glenderg says, the newer non-reservoir compressors have probably overcome this problem though. I remember a few years back, when I was researching which compressor to buy, I read about one guy using a normal cheap 12V compressor to pump up the tube from a car tyre and he then used this as his air source for spraying. A cheap and cheerful reservoir I guess! :D

  6. Great collection of photo's Wanderer. Having relied on this service to travel to school, college and now work these photo's bring back some good memories. It used to be nice to see a new railcar type taking over every few years or so. It's funny how the 'Arrow' branding has stuck though; I often hear people still refer to it as the 'Arrow' service even though it hasn't been in use for several years!

  7. They all look great Kirley, the 201 seems to sit nicely on the 66 chassis! That looks like a very neat job with the fibre-optic lighting on the A-class; I did something similar with mine but it was very fiddly and I'm not entirely happy with it but yours looks a much better set up.
