  1. (Very much an unconventional post, I know, but this seems like the best place to put this as it’s still a form of modelling in my view)

With the re-emergence of the Britbus Alexander (Belfast) RH Class-bodied Leyland Olympians, I’ve been inspired to finally throw myself in the deep end and construct a virtual “model” to accompany the almost inevitable purchase(s!) I will be making of the recent liveries on the RHs IRM are retailing. This doesn’t fit the standard definition of a model bus, but I have used modeller’s drawings to construct this from the ground up, so I think it still counts! 🙂

I hope this is of interest to someone!

(It’s still very much under construction)

  2. Yes, I agree, it wouldn’t come cheap, especially to get a 3-car set printed. Resin casting would be less expensive but I think the seller will offer 3D prints only. Due to the accuracy of the CAD, I would probably fork out for one set but resin might lower the price significantly. Nonetheless, the product is the best you can get if you don’t want to repaint a Turbostar. I’ll look into it further.

  3. So, as some of you may know, there is a designer on Shapeways, with the brand CMAC models, who manufactures fine, 3D-printed bodyshells, underframes, bodie sideframes and more. Their range is mainly 2mm scale but I have enquired about the CAF 3000 and 4000 Classes and whether or not they could be reproduced in 4mm scale. However, this would only be done with multiple expressions of interest. Would anyone else here be interested? Many thanks,

(Link to the C3K/C4K range - currently in 2mm scale, I have been informed they might be scaled up if sufficient demand is present)

  4. Good evening,

Last week, I ordered a 121 Class and EMD 645 sound decoder. My bank charges me a currency exchange rate fee of around 3% of the cost of the order. Would there be a way of paying so I don’t get charged a currency fee? I usually pay in GBP. I was about to order another A Class when I remembered that I would get charged more. What would be the best currency to order in? Many thanks

Yes, the compressor with a tank will come up to pressure in a minute or so, if no tank when switched on your ready to go. Adjust the output air to the airbrush down to around 2-3 psi or as required for type of airbrush and paint mix- you need to be activating the trigger on the airbrush when doing this as you will see mainly on a tank-less compressor there is a drop on the indicator so you set the pressure activating the airbrush.

Mix your paint to the consistency of milk in a separate container and then decant to the airbrush cup, some paints are already mixed by the manufacture ready to go.

Use kitchen towel to clean things but as it gets old and raggedy it starts to shed and those little bits will block the airbrush- change the towel frequently during a paint session.

Play with the brush before yo go spraying a model, use sheets of paper to spray on and play with settings and paint mix.

Clean the brush regular during use and when finished a session clean it out thoroughly with whatever thinners your using to paint with. Cellulose thinners is a good cleaner if stubborn paint will not move but do not leave rubber O rings or fibre washers in it for to long. Always clean the brush after use and refer to the instructions for details on taking it apart.

....and one on here might tell you to clean it with a sonic cleaner!! Do not do this if you value your airbrush- the needles on these can be forged parts which sonic cleaning will destroy, and anything screwed together can be rattled free and cause damage....

Regardless of type of paint do ware a mask (rated for gas) eye protection, and work in a well ventilated area.

We're not sure yet when the decoders will be coming exactly, so might be simpler to order them individually (it will be free postage on both regardless!)

    Hope that helps!

Right, unfortunately I made a combined order just before reading that. I sincerely apologise, would it be easier for me to re-order? I don’t want to make it more difficult at your end! I would be happy to wait until both are delivered to the IRM warehouse but I understand the impracticality of this. Again, I’m very sorry for my mistake. Many thanks for the assistance

    Hi there,

Not really as we do not know how many will be produced. However, I can tell you that so far 124 and 134 are the most popular two ordered from us by far, so far.

    Cheers!

    Fran

Thank you Fran, interesting the most modern are the popular ones! In which case, I’ll place my order promptly

I have one of those on Richie's recommendation and it works a treat, I use the medium sized cup. Bartsharp are keen on price and good on spare parts. Worth giving Alison a call.

Thank you so much for the advice, I hadn’t heard of them before but I’ve now compiled a comsiderable basket! They’re very helpful and the value for money is astonishing. Again, thank you for pointing that out

Quite pricey there @NIR 450 ‘Castle’ Class Just one 4000 class would take up my modeling money rations.

After look at ECM trains Bing loco I thought where i could get one so i look around and found a bargain  https://comoda.spraytanfresno.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_27&products_id=34882. Look at the price difference to this https://www.ebay.ie/itm/SCARCE-BING-LIVE-STEAM-O-GAUGE-LOCOMOTIVE-3410-BAVARIA-tender-great-western/143589052484?hash=item216e931044:g:4r0AAOSwj~VcyxGo. Unfortunately i am not going to buy it as my ration don,t go that far but i thought one of O gauge people or anyone would like it. Its is a real bargain.

    MM

That was my initial reaction @Midland Man but it does have DCC Sound..difficult one, in regards to those steamers, €49.86 is very decent, the guts of €500 is frankly ridiculous considering the condition (in my opinion anyway)
