So two of my six have landed here in Tasmania. Having been involved in this hobby over 50 yrs, I can say that in my opinion. this loco is the pinnacle of miniature engineering in 00. Detail, finesse andthoughtful design are outstanding. In a time when so many ‘superdetailed’ locos arrive with wipers, handrails or pipes loose or missing, these As are exemplary. Whichever factory you boys have used for these, keep hold of em!!! Quality control is excellent. Thoughtful to include spare air horns too as they are so delicate. Can’t wait for my next four!

Just a quick note of praise for the top notch, ever courteous and efficient communications from Pat and Stephen over my three orders. I’m sure the pressure is on over there, yet they respond quickly and professionally to questions re-orders etc.

Two of mine are leaving DHL Brussels shortly, so hoping for a similar turnaround of 5-6 days to Hobart, Tasmania. DHL Express seem to be really strong performers in IRL - Australia parcels.
IRM seem to be shipping the locos individually, even if two or more in an order.

As a Tasmania based CIE modeller, Idithered around and missed your last batch of brake vans, now sold out I see. Just wondering if you are considering another run of these. If so I am up for both grey and oxide versions?

As predicted, the Black and Tans have again sold down at amazing speed! Have just bagged one of the last three. I reckon there’s a lot of guys like me with childhood memories of CIE in the 60/70s! The power of Nostalgia….

Looking at the IRM recommended Lokpilot 5 I’m thinking its four plus four aux outputs, so its possible a Zimo or even Lais will do the job. Would be nice to know though…..

Yeah, I asked the same a couple of months ago. Just need to know whether the non sound decoder needs 4 function plus 2 aux or 6 full logic functions. Shouldn’t be too hard for the lads to tell us…?

Can only speak for my last three IRM shipments via DHL, each from Dublin to Hobart in 6-7 days. Extremely happy with that given the chaos in Australia Post at present due to staff shortages, on-line purchasing etc. I have just bundled a couple of ‘A’ class to ensure DHL so fingers crossed…….

Eagerly awaiting my A Class here in Tasmania, hoping that you guys continue to use DHL, as per all my recent orders from you. Post system here is in crisis, DHL seem to be able to rise above major delays.
if I order another A, to go with my preordered one, can the order be combined with DHL as carrier?

Interesting list Rob. A container livery which I have now found has faded away to obscurity is GENSTAR, (often bauxite colour with white on blue vertical marking on the left end. I have on of these, and can find no trace of it on UK or Irish network after 2014. Gone from being to commonest globally after Maersk to total extinction. As it was a long lived scheme, may be able to run it with my Bells.

Thanks lads, I am repurposing some of my spoils to container flats, and other than maybe some weathering, don’t particularly want to repaint the bogies (I view IRM stuff as collectable in the future, if not already) so good to know I can model containers from last 15 yrs or so. I guess this would rule out Bell 40’s.

Following on this discussion, approximately what year in the ‘modern era’ (whatever that is??) do we think the black painted bogies and blue springs began to appear on IE freight flats etc?

Anyway, it seems I can use many of the UK retailed containers like OCL, COSCO, CMA-CGM, MSC ete etc for relatively modern IWT liners.

I am repurposing a few of the 42’ flats from spoil use to containers. I will use them for two approximate eras:
1. Mid 80s, have CAST, Tex and Bell
2. 2010 (ish) to present, have Maersk, CMA-CGM, MSC, Evergreen,
was wondering if anyone has any firm sighting/photos of Evergreen 40’ boxes on Irish liner services?

Sadly not, memories from the age of about 10. Cameras were a luxury then anyway. So many hours spent waiting at Limerick Junction too, with a few battered bulleid corrugated opens and ancient covered vans that seemed to sit forever on the middle roads. It seemed a languid unhurried atmosphere with nothing much happening for long periods of time. Your current layout on here rekindles those memories for me.

I have a question for the IRM guys, I missed out on the 42’ flats the last couple of years, and am not particularly interested in the detachable spoil skips. My question is: Are the markings and livery on the flats under the spoils inaccurate if I want to use the flats for container liner services??

Also, I have a set of your Guinness kegs but not the cages used to transport them. Can the kegs be prototypically placed on the flats without the cages?

The only one I have ever seen and picked up is the brown and umber leopard/panorama in cie tours livery. I was thinking more of the M series and the many before. Surely no branch line station is complete without them?

Apologies if this has been done to death in the past, but am I alone in thinking there must surely be a market for a limited RTR run of any incarnations of the Leyland Leopards used in rural Ireland in the period 1960s to 80s??
i know there have been kits etc, but what with the growth of Irish modelling surely its now or never?

Dave, following on from your post, my sketchy knowledge of the A’s numbering system is confusing me. I had thought that the suffix ‘R’ denoted rebuilt or re-engined locos following the power unit switch to GM. Why then, does 018 not have this suffix? According to IRM info it is suitable for the GM sound chip?
I maybe answering my own question here, but is it the case that after Black n Tan locos, ST livery onwards did not bother with this suffix as they were all re- engined by then?
Also, what does the s suffix denote? strengthened windscreens?
