  1. Vivid memories of Rosslare harbour as a child in the sixties, with mine like many Irish families toing and froing to Britain for work/families. I remember seeing the two baby GMs stabled at the extreme end of the pier with the spray of the Irish sea pelting them occasionally.

Equally vivid memories of disembarking from trains at Fermoy station, with its little tank engine on display at the end of the platform.  Happy days indeed.  An old Mitchelstown boy.

  2. Just a note of thanks to the team at IRM. My bundle pack arrived here in southern Tasmania just over a week after ordering.  Superb products. Between you and MM the impossible is being done. Slowly recreating the Irish railways of my memories. Awaiting the A Class now……

  3. Thanks lads, useful info for someone with only 55 yr old vague memories of 4 wheel wagons on CIE.  Can recall some ancient vans sitting in the middle roads at Limerick Junction in the 60s.  They looked clapped out even then…….😄

  4. In the spirit of nailing down livery info that may be of use to others in the future, I have answered my own question through further digging and research.   A class in CIE roundel Supertrain livery recorded on camera in 1989 (ironically, hauling ‘Tippex’ Intercity Mark 2s).  Tippex livery cravens on film in 1989.  Therefore, 1989 will do for me as having credibility in running these two liveries together.

    Thanks to all who contributed.

  5. Evocative of my childhood interaction with Irish trains. I can just remember getting off the train at Fermoy station with my parents on a summers night…..

    Beautiful stuff. Well done.

Quick question about the cattle wagons.  Im assuming you regard the Dapol cattle wagon as a good base for an Irish model of same?

is there much work to be done on it?

  6. 45 minutes ago, Noel said:

Did the A not run in IE/IR livery right up to the early/mid 90s when they were withdrawn? A small few never got the Tippex strips?

so I guess all locos except the two Sulzer variant hauled those late Cravens, mainly 071, baby GM pairs, singles on local services, and occasional 201.

True Noel.   Hard to pin down their last running in Supertrain  (Broken Wheel) ?  Bit loath to deface my A class with the IR Points symbol.  Otherwise I would have bought 007. I am a CIE modeller at heart! ☺️    John

  7. I have a rake of the late livery Cravens acquired a few years ago (‘Tippex’) and have just ordered an IRM A Class in Supertrain (CAWS) 027.  I have been searching for on line pics of a CIE supertrain livery A class hauling these later liveried cravens without success.

My research suggests this surely happened about the changeover to IR, 1987 or 1988?. Quite a few pics of 141 and cravens in this configuration, so imagine the A class would be no different, unless there was a mad rush to put the IR points symbol on the As?

    Any knowledge appreciated.
