  1. Hi trainboy,

That's a great discovery, intact and so far from home - I wonder what the fare might have been from Howth Head or Sutton Cross to Perris Valley CA ? 🤔, I guess that's one for the actuarially smart folks with a knowledge of the local fare structure pertaining at the time, and the time value of money calculation,  (not me 🙂)

  2. Hello,

Having completed, and learned so much, from my small scale Diorama, ("IKEA shelf Layout" - Irish Model Layouts), I'm at the planning stage of my larger layout. I plan to use extruded polystyrene board, amongst other material, for the basic scenic foundations and then proceed to more subtle topographical landscape formation (I used multi purpose polyfilla last time which was just ok - on top of the excellent woodland scenics plaster cloth). I have read/observed many modellers use "sculptamold"  for this purpose, but I've not been able to identify any suppliers here in Ireland. Can anyone inform me of a source in Ireland, or indeed a suitable appropriate alternative.

    Thank you, George.

  3. I had a most enjoyable afternoon at the show yesterday - congratulations to all at WMRC and all the tremendous exhibitors. I was in awe at the talent and creativity on display, learned so much from open, sharing and warm chats with Enda and Eamonn on "Past Avenue" and "Bushville" plus sage advice from Gerry Byrne on "Shunters Yard" and many more. So many layouts to admire - I particularly liked "Weston Interchange", "Rathmicheal", "European Tramway", "Old Farm", "Little Siddington" of course, and finally "Over the Hill".

    I just watched Nick's excellent video - I even spotted myself 🤭

  4. Hi warb,

I was so captivated by this posting that I went right back to the very beginning of the thread and read every page - what can I say, except to echo all the accumulated compliments and comments of so many others. Spellbinding modelling skills and incredibly atmospheric depiction of a part of the city I know very well - Congratulations

  5. Hello All,

I want to extend my sincerely thanks to the Bandon tank, Bob229, ttc0169, Galteemore, jhb171achill, DB JOE, Mike 84c, 2996 Victor and skinner75 -  and all those who very kindly pressed the "like" and "WOW" buttons.

I am genuinely buoyed-up and flattered by all the incredibly positive and encouraging responses, particularly from such a body of accomplished and experienced railway modellers.

    Thank you sincerely,

    George

PS - I hope to possibly meet some of you in Wexford

  6. Excellent tutorial Noel.

A few quick questions, (from a rookie) - (1) Is Javis fine granite your preferred ballast ? - I think I spotted a Woodland Scenics bottle in the background, who obvious produce a wide range of ballast material. (2) If not planning to heavily weather the ballast, would you recommend an alternative ballast variety ? (3) Is the cork track bed really that bad for noise transmission ? - it appears to be widely used amongst modellers.

    Thank you,

    George

  7. Hello,

This may be of interest. The February 2022 edition of Railway Modeller Magazine contains a special reprint of the very first edition of RM, dated October-November 1949. Of particular note is an article by "Mr. and Mrs. Cyril L. Fry", tilted "The Irish International Railway and Tramway System". The article, and indeed the entire publication, provides a fascinating insight in to the society and language of 1949.

    Regards,

  8. Love the storytelling through your brilliant models - particularly taken with the poignant Morris Minor farewell for Boston scene, I'm sure it resonates with many of us.

By the way, A42 looks great in your environment.
