  1. thanks for all your advise, I have decided to use 1.5 T@E for droppers, (every 3 ft.) and 2.5 T@E for bus, (solder solder), with 10 zones, each not exceeding 15ft, in a star formation. I have 5 roads, all 40ft long by 10ft wide: up and down mainline, up and down suburban line and a branchline with a sub-branch, a quarry, 7 stations, creamery, 2 goods yards, 2 loco depots and a carriage depot with sidings: controlled by, yes a Hornby Select!!, yes I will need to update it, another day's work.
  2. I used to visit it to buy track and points for my Hornby Flying Dutchman, (Britannia), and Pulman coaches, it was called Leinster model railway, I think. I also purchased a black "Electra". It was 1965 and 1966. Happy days!!!
  3. Depending on which side you wear your cap, Jersey or Manhattan!
  4. Thanks Dave, much appreciate your help, will let you guys know how I get on. Brian
  5. Thanks a mill, will have photos asap.
  6. In the process of rearranging landscape, will have some photos by mid Feb.
  7. Hi, My layout is DCC, 40ftx10ft with 5 roads, points are manual, and I have only one power connector!!! Everything works ok sometimes, but I need to fit a bus cable and droppers. I need advise as to the size of wires to use for bus and droppers. All advise greatly appreciated as I am in SW Donegal, where buses are seem on television and the only droppers are from emaciated seagulls or low flying crows!! Brian
  8. Hi Blu, I am in your situation regarding soldering, I have not mastered this task, I intend this new year to do so and to apply it when required. Having said this, my layout is 8 years old, oo gauge, DCC, 102 points,(manual), 40ft. x 10ft. and still growing. I have a Hornby Select unit, soon to be replaced. Most of my locos are DCC and some DC, most of my points have Hornby power clips and I have not yet experienced a problem, granted I keep the track clean,I use graphite carpenter's pencil on all points. This is time consuming considering there is 600ft of track, My only power source is a hornby power clip. Luckily, I have not as yet no problems, fingers crossed. I do agree that the best practice is proper solder connections. My advice to you is to learn how to solder and follow your dreams. I am in the process of following my dreams, I just have to learn how to solder. Happy days.
  9. Great tips, any ideas for empty beer cans? For ballast I use aquarium grit from pet shops, this tiny black fragments of gravel cost 8 euro for a decent size bag, it is fixed in the time honoured way, 50/50 pva, washing up liquid and I add artists grey acrylic paint to the mix. The beauty is, being gravel, it can be reused time and time again. Happy New Year.
