  1. If you're going to run american models, I wouldn't recommend trying to fit OO tension lock couplings. The HO body mounted knuckle couplers are able to pivot, and this allows them to run around corners. Fitting a tension lock would probably derail trailing stock

  2. UP, it was BNCR - however, BCDR green was very dark as well. BCDR also used a lighter (almost Isle of Man style) green at some stage - I think it was pre-war; this is what's on No. 30 in Cultra.

Ah right I see. Must have gotten the two mixed up!

    Thanks for clarifying

  3. DN&GR - same livery as the LNWR 'Blackberry Black' for locos and 'Plum and Spilt Milk' for coaches.

    B&NCR - 'Invisible Green'

    CDRJC - 'Geranium Red'

Forgive me if Im wrong but was Invisible Green not a BCDR thing?

  4. Bachmann USA do an Alco S2 switcher in HO for a reasonable price that looks to me like a decent candidate for a C Class chassis. Bogies aren't a mile away in shape and the battery box is a close enough shape too

  5. Could the air braked mk 2a run with all the IR locos? I don't think the A class had air had it

I remember being on the new 2D on the Waterford Dublin when I was a lad ( around 74 i think ) they were so quiet. But you couldn't open the windows so I did t like em.

No, As don't have air train brakes. Vacuum only. They actually have a vacuum loco brake as well, which is rather unconventional, especially given the Cs were built with air loco brakes.

  6. Irishthump, I agree with what you said about quietting down over time. I've had them only a few days but I suspect they mightnt have run for a while with the last owner and after a few hours running in theres been a fair reduction in noise, which I think was probably the gears in the drive as opposed to the motor, which I think is one of the new cans.

Warbonnet, thanks for the tips, will bear those in mind!

  7. Perhaps - but several people have indicated on here that they wont buy it unless its done by MM, talk about gullible.

While MM have undoubtedly done a great job with the releases to date, I think it's disadvantageous to lock our market into one manufacturer. We would be best exploring other options, and then perhaps we could have more than one thing done at once.

Not in any way meaning to put down MM, I am eternally grateful for the work Mr Murphy has down for our hobby. Just trying to be realistic

  8. Hi all,

I recently picked up an Athearn RTR GP60M and GP60B on eBay.

Arrived yesterday, and I am pleased to say that they are great locos. The detailing is good, with realistically thin handrails, separately applied grab irons and see through roof fan grilles. The ATSF warbonnet livery is well applied, as usual for Athearn in my experience.

They both run nicely on DC, although they are a bit on the noisy side. I hear this is fairly common for RTR range locos (all my previous Athearn locos have been Genesis).

All in all, I'm very satisfied with my purchases, and would definitely buy another Athearn RTR model in the future.

And to finish, a few photos

  9. Rapido certainly seem keen on the crowd funding setup for the foray into the British market. I wonder would it be worth approaching them with a proposal?

Personally, I'm still undecided as to whether I would pre pay. Would as others have said very much depend on the model. However, I agree with Chris that Rapido would be an excellent choice of manufacturer where they interested. Their stuff seems to be great quality

  10. Sad to see the physical shop gone. I fear that in an online market, MSB may come in to difficulty even more so with them being undercut by box shifters like Rails, and having lost their main attraction of being able to physically see the item. Pity about it

  11. IÉ fitted them when they had the loco on loan... same deal with the orange/black window frame. :)

Hi Garfield, not sure you understood my post correctly. I was making reference to the lights on 111 herself; I am aware what the deal is with 112s lights. My point about 111 is illustrated by the photos linked to earlier in the thread, and from seeing 111 first hand the day those photos were taken.

So what I'm wondering is, are the lights recently fitted to 111 of IE origin?

    James

  12. I would agree with you, next time 113 goes in for anything big to be done they will probably fit the LEDs.

Interesting to note, 111s lights have a red/orange surround. I haven't asked but I'm wondering are they IÈ spares?
