  1. He’s apparently kinda busy with his latest conquest, visiting Victoria Falls in Zambia and back in Laois here in Ireland. I just can’t imagine any doctor suggesting that a long haul flight to Africa, in a pressurised tin can for hours on end, is what a ‘patient’ with a heart condition, brain cancer, and aneurisms galore, should be doing Makes you wonder how he can afford it given his self-professed financial hardship and the money he owes so many people, perhaps his new cabinet business is doing really well
  2. It was, but not for the typical reasons. I know of one man who was asked how he was enjoying the baseboard that he won at the show a few years ago - he was still waiting to receive it having paid extra to have track laid. The person asking was horrified, told the man that DL would be there to disassemble the MMRC layout and that he would sort it out. He did, but not before DL attempted to extract more money. DL is owe me a considerable € for work paid for and never completed (he was allegedly working on it in Aug ‘24, if drilling single hole constituted ‘nearly finished’ for fitting and wiring over a dozen light signals). I ended up renting a van 6 months later and driving to Edenderry to take possession of what had been done to that point, over 18 months, and leaving me extremely angry. I confronted him at the Wexford show and informed him that a complaint would be submitted to the Guards for obtaining monies by deception, that’s the avenue that I’m pursuing.

  4. Nearly new to the forum, so ploughing through this entire thread for input to my own project - this Tamper is one amazing piece of kit!
  5. That's a nice action that they have, did you remove the spring from the peco point as well? I see you're using the trackbed foam from Woodland Scenics, I've used it in the past to good effect - more stable and durable than cork, with quieter running - how do you find it?
  6. Great videos, watched them over the weekend. I like the detailing on the track work, especially the rust on the rails but no overdone sleepers - what was the method and sequence of weathering you used on these (very much adds to the realism)?
  7. Appreciate the reply - I'll watch (and learn) with interest - cracking layout.
  8. I'm interested to hear what you think about the Cobalt point motors - I was thinking about Tortoise as I can't stand the 'thwak' you get from Peco and Seep motors - what swayed you to go with Cobalt and what's the installation been like?
  9. A great way to start Chevron, you discover so much in doing projects like that and you learn from the inevitable aha! moments
  10. That is a seriously nice piece of work Anthony - very well captured and not at all 'fake' looking. Did you weather your rails & ballast with airbrush as well - would you PM me with your prices etc?
  11. Oofta! Now that is a cracker - great scratch building etc, where did you get the back-scenes from incidentally?
  12. As Dave mentioned above, the biggest false economy is going with Hornby track (in particular the points), Peco make a very good product if you're not going to scratch build (I neither have the time or the inclination). When I lived in the US I bought all my Peco track from a tiny local model shop although my rolling stock had to come from the UK, so in addition to Hattons you can also look here https://railsofsheffield.com/default.aspx I've found their customer service and speed of shipping exceptionally good in the past - but I would encourage you to whenever possible support your local model shop, times are tough, I saw 'The Train Man' from Portlaois and Dave at the show at the weekend working hard, and it's guys like these along with the Marks Models etc we need to support with our hard earned cash. I'll be wearing the road thin between Castlecomer and Portlaois thin over the coming months. It's a great hobby, changing with the times and so it has something for everyone - I like the technical side, DCC, and the scenic stuff - you can become immersed in your own world while it's gone to heck in reality - escape. Good luck with it, don't get frustrated, ask the questions because everyone will have been there at some point to some degree and the end result is very, very satisfying.
  13. Enjoyed my first visit to the show on Sunday, the baseboards by Model Rail Baseboards looked a quality item, loved the DART models on display. I'm about a 30 minute drive from the club, so may pop along to see what's happening on a Friday night....
  14. Forgot to mention, it called RailModeller, and it does have the Hornby track profiles as well as Peco (Peco is displayed as HO and Hornby as OO gauge)
  15. Hi there Chevron. It's software designed specifically for the Mac - it's very intuitive, and as you can see from some of the pictures it enables you to print out sheets (or specific selection of them, which is useful if you're only making small changes to a specific part of the layout) in full scale and it has the majority of Peco track elements. I can't tell you the pain that the software avoided, and when I put the plan out on the baseboards full-scale it gave me a good sense for how the finished article was going to look and where I could plan for future extensions. Having the Peco part numbers was a massive help for creating the shopping list and also keeping waste (cost) down. I'm going to use it again in the coming weeks/months for planning my new layout here in Kilkenny.
