  5. I don't know where you got that from, I bought 2 boxes of Peco SL102, 50 lengths for £119 plus £12.00 shipping total £131.00 which is €150.77 which works out at €3.02 per length delivered!!!

Apologies Dave got it mixed with something else. In Irish (ROI) retailers defense we pay substantial carriage costs for Peco product as compared to UK and N Ireland retailers who pay none!!Add in the higher VAT rate and variable currency costs.......I could go on, but I'm not here to whinge. Again my apologies for my error.

  6. To buy local means paying a lot more than getting it in from the UK, Marks Models charge €4.50 a length for Peco SL102! I can buy it a lot cheaper in the UK.

I normally buy local where I can but I saved nearly €70 buying in the UK.

I am a big believer in supporting Irish suppliers, but with a price difference that big it pays to shop around.

    It arrived safely this morning:-bd

Rails euro price works out @ €8.67 per length plus p&p. How is that cheaper?

  7. Amen Brother!!

I dont there is a "one liner" in existence to sort out this mess.

I find myself in a bad place regarding all the negative feedback on this issue

Des and Anthony are both on my Christmas card list and I have spoken with both of them regarding all the issues brought up

I have ordered 6 kits and hope to have them soon. One should be here tomorrow hopefully

I am buying the kits to resell; I have some customers waiting for them

I do not see any issue that cannot be sorted The acid test however will be whether or not the kits sell.

When the kit arrives I will post some comments, however I do have to agree with Train Model and GMO71 in the way that the forum seems to have gathered like vultures to criticize SSM

I have tried having some bits made commercially in the past and it was a nightmare, so bad in fact that I took a large hit and never went ahead with it

The amount of time alone that goes into these projects is phenomenal and if time alone were charged at the average industrial rate the models would be twice as dear, but the thing that I really admire with any project is the balls to get up and do it, remember its money up front with all these projects, bring your items to market and then hopefully see the smile on your customers face when they purchase one

Remember folks this model was available for view at Cultra for 2 days

I never heard one negative comment, bar from the mean bastards who were giving out about the price, but they complain all the time anyway!

Knowing the man that Des is, I am sure he will sort out some bits to remedy the concerns

Knowing the man (and a half) that Anthony is, he has had time to ponder. We all know he jumps in first, asks questions later.

He has pointed out some flaws in the model but let’s leave it at that. We are all in this hobby together; let’s enjoy it while we can

They said the Titanic was the dogs gonads……..

  8. Well said Rob-Clear and to the point! Its a pity that Anthonys comments in regard to this model on enniscorthymans workbench have been deleted since morning and indeed the title of this particular thread changed. That said I'm sure SSM will take all constructive criticisms on board as indeed should any manufacturer, supplier, retailer or service provider.

    Seamus

  9. Seamus I have made all my customers aware of the short comings regarding the kit and they have all instructed me to continue with the builds. As I've stated this is a discussion on the model and its faults and nothing else. Sorry if you have taken it up the wrong way.

Anthony, I haven't taken it "up" any way,I just thought your comments over two threads were over the top. Certainally no offence taken my me.

  10. I have 5 of them sitting on the workbench Seamus and they are all the same. Any other members that I've spoke to have said their's are the same also. As for slating the kit we are discussing the kit which we are entitled to do as with any model after all this is a model train forum is it not. Are you saying if something is bad we are not allowed to talk about it and sweep it under the carpet and as a group we are only allowed to talk about the good things. If this was a Bachmann/Hornby model etc etc there would be nothing said about as you say slating it but because its a local supplier you seem to think nothing should be said about the bad quality of the model.

Anything but Anthony-I have always defended any members right to their opinion, but respectfully I think your comments across two threads borders on libelous. You are quite prepared to accept your fee (which you are entitled to do) for building these models, which according to your posts you obviously think are rubbish. If they are so bad, why build them??? Would you not be better to tell your customers about the short comings and give them the opportunity to take the matter up with SSM? At least then Des would have the opportunity to resolve the matter with his customers, rather than one man's opinion being foisted on all and sundry on a public forum. As I have already asked-"Can you do better"???

Personally I have spoken to Des (who as anyone who has met him will attest to) is a very approachable guy, about the short comings of this model, and without speaking for him, I believe he took these comments on-board. I feel that your comments were not constructive criticism, but rather a an ill thought out reaction. As I said can you do better?? If you can I for one would certainally support your efforts, as I do Des's or any other local supplier/manufacturer.
