  1. Thanks Glenderg, I think I'll leave it a bit longer before trying something that drastic. Should have used Johnsons Klear but unfortunately you can't get it over here.

Hi you can get johnsons klear over here my local super valu sells it.

try asking your local friendly supermarket manager to get it in for you if he or she is any good they will get it in for you

  2. The traffic stopped when Co Councils who used the tar with stone chippings to repair road surfaces, started to use roads to transport their tar rather than the railway.

The railway had started to focus on block trains and with the demise of local goods trains that could bring a wagon load or less here and there. councils simply did not need huge amounts found on block trains.

  3. hi the codes for the Irish Cement ivory and blue colours as used on the various cement wagons over the years are - MIR2 Irish cement "Traders Ivory (dull) by Phoenix Precision Paints"

for the curtain side and cements you have a choice - MIR Northern Ireland inter-city blue (dull) will do also by phoenix Precision paints will do, the shades of blue varied from paint to re-paint and the weather, so any makes paint will do if it looks right to you

The guillotine cememts are i lot lighter in shade, not to sure whats best for those, some were painted wagon grey

the bubbles can be painted wagon grey for early days and P881 CIE Golden Brown (Dull)

try giving them a shout Clifton Flewitt may also have some stock left and he attend model shows around the country and the IRRS in Dublin Hueston Station on Tuesday evenings, which will reopen from Sept 4TH

  4. Who were you with back then. was riding in a british team got bike and travel paid for the cash was to pay for food and b+b s , race entry fees ,physio and massage fees and was paid by my bike supplier a American manufacture who has a team riding its bikes in this years tour, who then was relaunching its brand in the uk after its original distributor in the UK went bust.

getting paid pocket money to ride was normal for a first cat elite riders and it still happens today.

  5. With the advent of Social Media and Text Messaging etc it would have to be classed a state secret for you not to know where it was going!!

Next time we will get one to Feltham through the secret tunnel and on to the enchanted Hounslow loop line now that would be a good mystery tour.

  6. Hi all this is going to be a good day out, the €6 cover entry for the day , so if you have nothing to do that day and you have never been now would be a great time to vist or revist this great little railway.

  7. Hi there this is a case of whats not on

The IRRS library and archive are now closed for the duration of the summer.

We shall be reopening on Tuesday the forth of September from 19.45.

Please note there will be nobody in attendance at our premises during this time, unlike in other years.

    Thanks.

  8. A average rider in the tour de France earns about 150k a year.

Carlos Tevez got 230k a week for doing nothing.

Darran Clark got 8 million for winning British open golf.

average tour rider is in a basic of € 60.000 a year if on one of the bigger teams it drops down to less than €30.000 a year if you ride for a division two team.

i got £7,000 as a full time amateur back in 87 some of the pros were only £18,000 at the time when riding for teams such as skil sem lotto la vie clare

  9. Im not to sure if wiggo brad Wiggins is a true tour contender, he is being promoted by the British press and sky his own sponsor the British press as a general rule no nothing about cycling. having known his dad before he passed away and knowing brad well when he was a kid when i was training and racing with him at the Archer road club in london , i think he not the right guy to win this years tour. but i would be very happy if i was wrong.

by the way brad himself will tell you the football is not for wimps and is an Arsenal supporter himself !

Im an ex archer road club london and wexford wheeler and used to work for the british cycling federation

  10. The Dublin built pair of 113 and 114 were built and designed in the 1950 to a cie design original design drawing s first appeared in 1945 !, the only domestic built bogie twin cab locos built here

The B 101 class were the the only sulzers to run in Ireland and only ever 12 built plus 113 and 114

The NIR 101 were the only hunslet diesels to run in Ireland all three of them

THE 121s were the first American single cab locos to run in Europe.

The 141s were ahead of there time and indeed the first class of locomotive that gm emd built with twin cabs.

the current 201 locos were built to a unique design and are exclusive to Ireland

so we are far from being a country of mass produced diesel locos we quite the opposite in fact with locos designed for the needs and conditions of this country adapted as like steam loco designs were also for this country

  11. Looks really well. Studio Scale Models stock both white and red 1mm prewired LEDs that are suitable for fitting and come with resistors. All you need then is a flat 3v battery and a switch for independant operation.

Wow totally convincing the bar has been raised well done

  12. I live in Stafford and one of it's claims to fame is the station announcement stating that "The train now standing at Platform Three is the mystery excursion to Barry Island"..

This one is an open secret everyone and his dog knows were this one is going except the driver that is !
