  1. Question on the 'Bulk Cement' wording on the orange bubbles. Was this stencilled on or painted on or a combination of both? Barry's photo above shows stencilling, and this can be replicated with transfers available from Railtec. 

    Also, Richie mentioned at some point about providing a spreadsheet with the livery details for each wagon. Have I missed this along the way or have you IRM lads been working him to the bone with all these new releases for 2018?

  2. Must be new moulds in use for the air vent to have changed location. Strange one.

    Also, looking at Dave's photos, the white lines on the new model seem a bit thicker and the top orange portion seems to extend slightly further up the roof. Not a deal breaker but the older 1508 model seems more accurate livery wise to the real thing.

    Cant wait for the 121's to be released but the wobble issue on the Cravens released in the last while, the vent in the wrong location and slight livery variations on the new Cravens buffet worry me slightly, as it seems the standard coming from whatever factory is used now doesn't seem to be as high as the previous factories used for these models.

  3. Few interesting things from Dave's photos. First is that there appears to be a passenger coach in the background. Was Cabra used to store passenger trains?

     

    Second observation is the differing locations of the 'Bulk Cement' stencilling on the wagons as in one is slightly higher or lower than the other one. Nice little detail if IRM ever decide to do the bubbles in early grey livery.

  4. Tara Mines wagon already announced, so unsure if this is included in new announcements, so my money is on the following :

    Bogie Bulk Cement wagon

    42' Flat wagon

    Bagged cement wagon 

    Ballast brake van

    However, IRM could go totally out there and go with

    A Class loco

    22000 railcars

    Park Royal coach

    Laminate coach

    In any case, less than four weeks until we know 😁😁😁

    Built : 1912

    Withdrawn : 1964

    Bogie Wheelbase : 8' 0"

    Wheel diameter : 3' 7"

    Width over sides : 9' 0"

    Height over roof : 12' 0"

    Seating : 16 1st Class

     

    G.S.&W.R. Carriage Register lists the coach as an Inspection Saloon. Listed as having 2 Saloon compartments and 1 attendant compartment, gas lighting, 1 lavatory and weight as 24T 6C 1Qtr.

    Built June 1912. double braked, handbrake fitted, steam heated and with G&C brake.

  6. Only going on what the results of that survey were. It's also the period that I model and have most interest in. The survey results did seem a little strange at the time considering CIE liveried models always seemed the last to sell out in the past, but maybe the greater availability of Irish RTR models in the last few years is making people more likely to model a certain era rather than just buy a model because it's available, Irish and RTR. Take the MM 184 and 187 models for example. First to sell out AFAIK when they were released as they were the first detailed loco on the Irish market and a significant level above the previous Lima 201's. Most modellers bought them for that reason alone. Just a thought.

    Recent survey on this site showed 1970s-1980s period to be most popular, so would say Mk3 models would be more popular than Mk4 models.  Both would still sell, but can't see Mk4's being more popular. 

    Can totally understand the stance taken by IRM in view of Oxford's statement of intent to do Irish Mk3's. Loads of other models for IRM to pick from, and if they are as good as previous releases, they will be welcomed with open arms by Irish modellers.

  8. Selling this 1/76 scale Bombardier KD Class bus that is now sold out with the kit manufacturer as it just falls outside the period that I intend to model. Has not been removed from box for display purposes.

    Looking for what I paid for it; the original selling price of €150.

    Happy to post at cost. Payment by PayPal if posting or cash if collecting in person.

    Yes, spot on.

    It says Ennis 1983 on the Flickr caption.

    Thought photo was good from the point of view that not all cement trains were 20+ wagons. You could have a prototypical rake with the amount shown in the photo. Also, roughly a 60/40 split between ivory and orange wagons in this rake, so probably a good snapshot of how many had been repainted ivory by 1983.

     

    Mad to think that you can now re-create this train in model form without any kits or scratchbuilding.

  10. When was the Irish Cement logo first used on the bubbles? I'm guessing around 1986 or 1987 as some Irish Rail cement trucks were also painted in Irish Cement livery around that time.

    Can anyone give a definite date?
