  1. Last year while visiting Glasgow I went on the West Highland Line from Glasgow Queen street station to Mallaig a day trip about 13 hrs return outbound to Mallaig on a Scotrail 156 enjoying the stunning scenery on route on the 5 hour or so journey  while seeing a Colas rail Class 37 and Class 66 waiting at station with the alumina tanks for North Blyth, the highlight of the day was in Mallaig boarding the Jacobite steam train back to Fort William a very enjoyable journey listening to the glorious sound and smell of a Steam engine while passing over the Glenfinnan viaduct of Harry Potter fame the journey was over too soon arriving into Fort William after approx 1.5 hrs.  The Calendonian sleeper was in the sidings at Fort William, back on the Scotrail 156 for the onward journey to Glasgow a journey I would very much recommend

The track level and platform level shots are sublime, TTC!

Just out of curiosity, after watching 161 and 132, is there (and was there back then) redundancy built into the rail network?

Is there a spare loco on standby, or does launching a rescue mission require cancelling something else?

If there is redundancy, where would the spare tend to be lurking?

There is a Class 201 on standby duty  in Cork

  3. Agree the hydrogen re-engining is not the solution here but is a option for freight services, I don't see all the network been OHLE so battery-electric for those parts of the network.  Big market in the USA if the hydrogen re-engining goes well

  4. Great discussion here, there will be a variety of power sources for transport I don't think electric is the only answer for aircraft sustainable fuels is the only way, battery range is improving for cars and will develop further with solid state batteries due in the next few years.  Will be interesting to see how the 071 hydrogen test will develop

"Rathmichael" was on the exhibition circuit last year after some refurbishment. WMRC plan to do some work on "MacMine Junction" for next year's round of exhibitions. We are almost ready with a revamp of "Scully's Dock" and this will be shown at the Wexford Autumn Exhibition and at the South Dublin MRC Exhibition in October. All three layouts were made by John Walker.

Excellent looking forward to seeing  Macmine junction and Scully Dock,  saw Rathmichael at WMRC Apr Exhibition a great show. Fine work by John Walker
