I had a quick look, they don't seem to have anything that's dead right, ( unless I'm missing something, quite likely) they reckon they 'can supply' for other non standard stuff, tho I bet these would cost a feckin fortune for 4 pairs of wheels.! 

I might just drop them an email saying what i need and see what, if anything they come back with..

Next game will be to find some 14mm ( 2ft) 6 spoked wheels, ideally axeled to 21mm, though I can do a bit of bullying on the gauge I expect..

Thanks gents! I wasn't sure if the creator of the model in the pics even got it right, I just used them to show the type of van!

Logic would kind of suggest the two sides be the same, but you never know, it'd be annoying to build it all wrong!...the one I'm thinking of ( no 22L) certainly went to C&L had no windows just plain planked sides, I've included the drawing I have, sorry about the "gradient"  but hey, it did originally come from Tralee & Dingle..!!!

I'm wanting to build this van in 7mm scale, I've got some nice dimensioned drawings but as only one side is shown I'm wondering if the other side of the van is identical, as regards position of the doors etc ?

The van was ex T&D and was substantially rebuilt for, (and likely by) the C&L and renumbered 22L

There's a guards access door and a sliding goods door at one end of the van, I'd kind of assume these would be repeated at the same end of the van on the other side, but can't be sure, so if anyone could confirm or deny that'd be grand !

I've included pictures of a 4mm model of the same van ( not my model btw) just for identification.

Well I think we're all agreed that it's a phoney anyway..  sure there's loads of these repro 'railway signs' all over fleabay and the like...

Its good to meet and talk to these old fellas while they're still with us, you can't beat word of mouth stories of what life was really like from people who were actually there !

The modern DIY shop screws do it for me ! Plus there's no weathering or staining around it on what it's fixed to that you'd get if it'd been on there donkey's years..

Thanks again Eoin, I'll check those out...I've actually got boat loads of old track that I'm quite happy to 'recover' rails from, (just like they did in real life!)  I found an interesting guide by a chap called John Clutterbuck when searching around for ideas, that's pretty good, it's geared towards the smaller Brit's NG but the method is same for any, he's using wooden sleepers and individual spikes made from staples !... Result looks very good though, would be even better in proper Irish 3ft !   a lot of patience required tho..

As I'm thinking in terms of a 7mm scale Cavan & Leitrim layout, or maybe big diarama due to space, I'm looking at track, now at 7mm that's 21mm gauge , (jeez even I worked that out!) ...There's some 7mm stuff out there running on regular 00 tracks at 16.5 but I reckon that's going to look a bit daft as its well under size, so I reckon the only option is to do some proper track laying at the right gauge...

Any tips on this? I guess some of you  gents have done similar, I'd be very interested to see what you've done and how you did it !...I guess maybe some normal code 100 track stripped just for the metals, and lots of sleepers lovingly hacked from wood is the way to go..?...then of course there's fixing rails to sleepers, much of the real narra gauge seemed to be simply spiked straight on to the sleepers without chairs or anything, which kind of makes it easier to represent.. again any input much appreciated.

I've in fact (kind of ) already ordered that book from the 7mm nga , tho I'm still awaitn' them to get back to me to confirm, I believe it contains a bit of other nice Irish stuff too, they seem to have a bit of a funny system when it comes to simply purchasing a book !!

And even if you wreck it, you've still got a template pattern to try again !

I'll have to search it out and see what he does with them, tho as you say he's using them as a pattern rather than make the kit itself.  First off I'd probably just make the basic kit, (bit like you did with the wagon)..but maybe make more detailed windows etc, and perhaps the roof would need a bit more of a 3 D than flat card would give, and a bit of weather effect and such..

Funny you mention Alphagraphix, as I've just posted another question about their card building kits, I've ordered a Ballyconnell station !... I ordered this from ebay rather than their catalogue, (which I don't have) as I understand it they do a few Irish wagon kits but in card ! As you say handy to use as templates I suppose, doubtless some have made decent models out of them..there's some clever fellas out there.!!

Has anyone built any of the Alphagraphix card kits?... Are they any good? ..I'm assuming they need a fair bit of modification, with detail parts adding to look convincing especially in 7mm scale.  I thought one would make a good starting point though, and they even do a station on the C&L which is my particular interest..

Any advice or info on building these kits would be much appreciated..!

Afternoon lads.....only just joined here, and apologies if I ask what's already been asked a thousand times before, or put it in the wrong place!

Anyway, I'm trying to find some plans or diagrams to build a C&L 4-4-0 ( a Robt Stephenson co engine, one of 8 ordered by C&L) I'm looking at doing it in 7mm scale, seeing as I've got to scratch build it anyway!    I've got a very simple basic drawing by J Emslie from a 50s mag, but was wondering if anyone had anything a bit more detailed / dimensioned ?

Has anyone else here built one in the past ? I'd be very interested to see what others have done and how they went about it.....

There's quite a few older posters on t'internet if you search "old Irish railway posters"... This one made me laugh tho...."Sure I wouldn't want to be on that bus, as it flys round that bend at 60 mph and looks like it's about to roll off onto the foreshore, or even take out the wee cottage on the corner.!!!
