  1. Nice find. Interesting the way the brake pipe goes around the outside of the wagon. Makes me think the vacuum brakes were a retrofit.

     

    It also raised another point for me, I have plenty great books for looking up locomotives and coaches but not much on wagons, they just seem to be a small add-on to some books. Locomotives and Rolling stock of Coras Iompair Eireann and Northern Ireland by Oliver Doyle and Stephen Hirsch has some good info regarding running numbers but not much else. Are the any good books for referencing Irish freight stock?

  2. ah found it, they still have 3172 and 3178. 3184 was scrapped and 3177 is at the Strathspey Railway in Scotland.

    The cravens vans (known as BR vans) were originally converted from BR brake coaches.
