Great layout, good luck with the extension. I love watching trains cross a bridge myself so look forward to seeing your progress.

Your layout looks great! Especially for a first effort too. Thanks for sharing the bush making tutorial, it'll come in handy for my layout as well.
And you've built a helix! Quite a challenge to get working from what I've heard. Look forward to more posts.

Lads, I'm just happy that you are so invested in Irish modelling and have successfully set up a bigger business to subsidise it!
Well said.

The Oxford tank wagon is very tempting. I prefer these short Irish Shell tanks to the Heljan Esso ones available from IRM.
How would I go about converting them? I've seen modellers rub off existing decals (Naval Store) with IPA . Are 'Irish Shell' transfers available?
I didn't want to widen the frame.
And lastly how likely are IRM to release one of these shorter tanks in a year or two?

Mallow,Ballyhaunis Ballina and Thomastown come to mind regarding Irish low platforms during the 80s and 90s.
Thanks TTC, I'll start googling those stations

You might have to think about clearances between the trains and the platforms too - would the wider US stock hit a high platform spaced for Irish stock? Maybe you would get away with it with the difference in scale?
Hadn't even considered clearance of US stock! I must remember to test paltform clearance with coach examples from both territories. Thanks Mol

Hello All,
I am currently building a layout in my garden shed. I'm in the process of completing the scenery for a rural section and will soon be able to start scenicing a passenger through station on the layout. There is one other terminal station on the layout aswell.
I will be running both Irish (CIE) and American (SF, UP, Rio Grande) trains on this layout from various eras but mostly 1940's to 1980's. Obviously I am not modelling any strict prototype scenes, instead I'm aiming to have most of the scenery and industries look to be passable as somewhere in the US or Ireland. A general temperate climate.
Anyway my concern is the 2 passenger stations. US stations typically have very low platforms and Irish ones are raised? Does anyone know of passenger stations in Ireland that had low platforms? Or high ones in the US?
For context I've attached a video of the layout. At the start where the orange A class is is where the through station will be. And later the yellow water bottle marks the position of the Terminal station. The rural section:

An amazing model, beautiful work. Thanks so much for sharing the whole process, it has been an education from start to finish.

I'd gladly take them Irishmail as I model US as well as CIE on my layout. But I am way down in Cork. My sister is a little closer to you in Killaloe

Arrived this morning, great runners on the layout. Superb job as usual IRM

I got a SSM CIE brake van brass kit there too. Can't wait to get a brake van on the end of my rakes.

Looks like it may be a 3D print. Also looks to have a slight sag…

Leslie I hope you have a happy and well deserved retirement, I've only bought a small number of wagons off you recently but they are treasured.

Thanks @MOGUL lovely image and info. I'm interested in any CPWs on Irish rails.
@MOGUL in your photo the CPW looks more yellow than grey. What original colours were they painted in on Irish rails? If yellow they remind me of the US TTX well cars that I am currently building from an Athearn kit that I run with my US outline collection.

I suppose the 40' and 2x20' Bells would fit and be Irish, stereotypical for DFDS or not.

I'm almost sure that @MOGUL recently posted about butchering some Dapol CPW's to make them look Irish.
This is probably the post you're referring to DJ:
@MOGUL makes an important point that the dapol CPWs won't fit 45' containers. Are there 40' Irish containers that would suit?

Would they be a very niche model to ever be viable for someone like IRM?
