I was very impressed on a recent visit to Cultra to see the real 800 class Maedbh,it's sheer size etc,
It must have been some sight on the mainline,
Des-you have certainly captured the impressive look of the loco-and if I had the confidence to build one I would certainly have one,
Well done-and best of luck with it.

Any update on the fate of the DFDS.. Seems to have been cancelled a good bit this week
The DFDS liner finished on Tuesday 10/07/12 with 079 hauling the final train from Waterford to Ballina.

Well done Frank-a nice era, love the cement depot.
-
Nice job there Kieran-look forward to more updates on your progress.

Great idea Anthony,
Let me get the train rolling
071 class:
072 worked the 11:05 Ballina-Northwall IWT liner this morning,
081 worked the Waterford-Westport empty timber train arriving in Westport at 17:40 this evening,
201 class:
The working of the year so far for me anyway when
8208 worked the 08:15 Ballina-Northwall IWT liner 17/18 LX wagons were loaded,
It had replaced 088 which had failed near Sallins yesterday morning, the liner eventually arriving into Ballina freight yard at 16:40-photos over the next few days,
222 worked the Northwall-Ballina IWT CPW liner today, arriving in Ballina freight yard at 14:35.

Noel, the 071 class sound chip is the best from what I have heard between it and the
201 and 141.I had a loan of one of Gerry Byrnes 071s a while back and she
Is a beaut.must get a chip when funds get better.
Cheers and thanks Eamonn-looking forward to the October bank holiday weekend.

Connolly shed closed on 31 December 2010. The area in front of the shed is only used to stable locomotives, all servicing work is undertaken in Inchicore Works now. The version of the redevelopment story I heard was that the shed was to be completely refurbished to accommodate a relocated and upgraded CTC centre. The original CTC building is now considered too small given the massive expansion of the system and it was that building that would have been demolished as part of the proposed redevelopment plan.
Correct.

Noel are all the wagons fitted with these if not how many in a rake would be fitted out like this. Thanks for posting the pictures up:tumbsup:
Anthony, all of that particular set of eight autoballasters had them fitted-I'm not sure about any other sets yet,
I'm reliably told that IE had plans that e.g an eight piece set would have four wagons fitted with the extendable chutes and a six piece would have two wagons fitted,
The photo was taken from the station platform at Roscommon station when the set was stabled there a few weeks ago,
The set is now stabled on the former cement siding at Tullamore station minus a loco if anyone's interested.

That's a great touch Noel well done have you any close up shots of either the real thing or the model in case anyone else wants to have a go. Once again well done on a cracking bit of detail
Thanks Anthony, yes I have lots of close ups of the prototype which I'll post for everyone over the weekend...

Thanks Anthony for the photos-I found it hard to find any photos of that type-I was just working from memory....

Thanks lads,
I've added some extendable chutes to two of my wagons,
Most of the real autoballasters have been fitted with these extendable chutes, they are used for side filling and reach out about five feet extra when extended,
IE planned to have two or four wagons on a rake,
They are secured in place by clips either side...

Thanks Des,I'll check that out-your unit load transfers will come in handy also for this project.
-
A nice selection and line up of trucks there Anthony-are they all made my Oxford?
I could do with adding a few of these to my layout in the future.
-
Ah yes, Steve Rabone's CIE lorry photo. I really need to kitbash one of my bedfords to make this one.
Ah the memories-The Ballina based Bedford,
I would definatly like a couple of these on my layout-any suitable doner?

On Friday last (22/06), as seen in Csalem's pic in a post on the Photographic Website Updates thread, 072 worked the up IWT liner. It is seen here entering the loop at Clara, where it crossed the 11:30 Dublin-Galway service, at 12:35. Vegitation clearance by IÉ has greatly improved the view of up trains from the road bridge at the Athlone end of the station.
<img src="http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1335"/>
At about 13:30 the down IWT liner passed through Clara headed by 079. Unlike the up train, which had 18 fully loaded wagons, the down working was only loaded to about half its capacity.
<img src="http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1336"/>
Nice photos josefstadt.....the area at Clara that has been cleared is to facilitate the building of a new longer set of points which when built will be installed under where loco 072 is passing over.
The longer point will allow faster running through the station in the future.

I like the gates Eamonn-really look the part-well done.
-
They look excellent, well done to the gentlemen who took the time and trouble and money to commission these models, which are a welcome addition to the current Irish railway model scene.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the idea of the upturned headlight was also intended to assist in locating the Asahi Liner in case of emergency. Not sure what the crew were supposed to do if anything went wrong without telephone or eadio communication on a remote section of the Ballina Branch.
John
There was an emergency telephone located in the old goods/Perway store at Foxford station in the event of an emergency with the Asahi liner and also there was special arrangements in place if the liner was overdue by 10 mins in a section,
It would have been quicker to get to the location of a failed Asahi liner by road than it would by helicopter particularly during the hours of darkness down the west,
There was also a telephone located at the 129 mpost near Bekan station between Ballyhaunis and Claremorris for that purpose also,
That telephone was used and was connected to the ETS signalling system and was decommissioned when the mini CTC was introduced-the yellow box is still there today on the up side of the line.
