  1. Check that they are not the ones that you peal off from the backing paper and stick on MIR did some vinyl decals

Anthony you’re just a fountain of knowledge, in all the MIR kits I built I only came across waterslide or rub-on transfers. Don’t remember even seeing vinyl transfers in their catalogue.

    Problem solved -thanks again.

  2. I am trying to finish off some MIR cement bubbles and put some transfers in water to loosen them before applying to the model. Nothing happened so I tried some warm water to see if it loosened then from the backing paper but after letting them soak for 20 mins no release. Anyone any ideas?

  3. Spotted a bargain online for an Irish railway item? Post it here!

Sorry, when I read “bargain online” I immediately thought of ebay. Now that the situation is clarified I wholly support your premise and I know there are many eagle eyed trawlers of the net on this site –Good hunting.

  4. The CIE (Ex LMS 57ft ) coaches were not released until late 01, just after the first launch of the Lima 201's.

Sorry Dave I was just going by the Murphy Web Site showing CIE 3rd/Brake Green released Aug-00 followed by the Woolwich black version Sept 00. However seeing the mistakes and double entries on his spread sheet I take it this entry was not accurate.

  5. That's my whole point Anthony.

Where there is little or nothing in the difference, make the effort to support local that's all I'm saying. Anytime I've asked, a local guy will match or beat the uk prices once you factor the (high) exchange rate and postage. As we saw already in this thread Seamus is cheaper than model fair for the 201s. And that's before you ask for a discount ;)

I am sure you would prefer work and recommendations than having lads on here raving about the uk respray guys for the sake of maybe saving a fiver?

The Irish modeling community is a tiny one. A small fraction the size of even a subset of the UK scene.

We should where possible support the components on our community that make it work and try to sustain and grow that expertise. This forum is an effort in doing just that.

Amen to all that -maybe this thread has run its course?

  6. Thank Dave for the latest episode in the MM story. I suppose chronologically the CIE 3rd/Brake Green coach would have next before the black Woolwich versions? I did not realise that Paddy Murphy continued using Lima after he started using Bachmann. Keep up the good work.

  7. I would presume the point is that the box shifters have a model more like tesco. Stack em high and make up on volume.

The local shops are more like traditional shops - experts in their fields, providing a lot of value added services and participating in events and supporting the community. The smaller scale model means you need to make margin on everything you sell and can't afford to simply sell at loss or cost + a point to clear shelves.

This argument has appeared a few times and while not seeking to defend the local shops, it's enough to say I highly value the services and expertise they provide and have never bought anything from a box shifter for that reason.

While I would use major retailers to buy certain bulk items, I would still use my local supplier as I value having a local model shop and would wish to support the service they can give.

  8. Fantastic looking set-up Kirley. Looks like its going to be a great layout. By the way, what radius curves are you using on the helix?

The Helix is 4 foot wide, I used flexitrack starting on the outside, and coming in equidistant for the next two tracks. Test runs have proved positive so far but I have not tried a rake more than five as yet. Inspiration from Everard Junction on You Tube.

  9. Probably some of you have seen these pictures before but for those who have not I would recommend a look at Keith A. Jaggers record of his trips round Ireland in the 1970’s.

    He did two trips:

    1970: Rosslare–Dublin–Belfast and around Ulster &

1976: A round excursion of Eire from Limerick, and a full day in Dublin

You can download it from here http://www.jaggers-heritage.com/resources/Irish%20Interludes.doc

    Gloriously evocative of that time.

  10. Thanks Dave for your pictorial record, I’m sure it’s tedious photographing and entering them on the site but please keep it going.

I remember coming across a Lima Catalogue of Irish Trains for a £1 but I did not buy it, something I have regretted since.

  11. Congratulations to the Wexford Club on the opening of your new clubhouse.

Thanks Eamonn for providing the pictures. Love the Cement Works.

By the way is this the first time the 3 main railway shops in Ireland have appeared on the same topic?
