  1. Thanks for the photos but like Shinkansen I have already completed my rake of Mark 3’s.

The photographs I really wanted to see but were very elusive were ones looking down on the roof detail.

Leaving that aside always nice to see close up photographs.

  2. KirleyJunctionLayout35.jpg

After living with a layout in the attic I took the plunge and started at ground level.

    KirleyJunctionLayout4.jpg

I had wasted space at the side of my house and a local shed builder made me one to fit the space.

    KirleyJunctionLayout6.jpg

It’s 16 x 16 x 9 x 16 which means it narrows at one end and has interesting angles on one side.

After the shed was erected (just after Easter) I had to wire it, put in insulation and sheet it with plywood.

The very awkward corner became the location for a helix as I wanted to use the under layout space for storage and the helix could get the trains to the upper level.

Bench work was then built round the walls.

    KirleyJunctionLayout26.jpg

    KirleyJunctionLayout27.jpg

I started to cut out track beds from plywood sheeting

    KirleyJunctionLayout29.jpg

The wood frames stacked on their sides are for the middle section which I shall only erect when I have most of the construction work completed on the wall benches.

Chaos seems to rule and I am running out of space to work, you have to move stuff to cut and the process seems endless.

    KirleyJunctionLayout40.jpg

So that’s what has been keeping me busy for the last few months. No model making and I’m getting withdrawal symptoms.

My consultant on this project is Anthony who continues to be a great help in the move to DCC as well at advice on the build in general -long may his patience last.

  3. Kirley wiring the electro frogs is very straight forward. But as Boskonay says you will need a reverse loop module for section B I'm not to sure but you may need 2 one for each track. Might be best to give Fiona a call at DCC Supplies and email the diagram of section B over to her.

Thanks Guys for the suggestions. Anthony I emailed DCC Supplies re section B and am waiting a reply. If you are about Tue night I'll phone you re electro points.

  4. I am moving to DCC for my new layout and also using Peco electrofrog for the first time. I wish to tap into the wealth of experience available on this Forum for advice on how to wire points for the following two track layouts.

Simple explanations on what is required would be appreciated.

  5. I undertook a Railway holiday last month travelling via Scotland to Yorkshire and visited a number of Historical Railways along with the National Railway Museum at York. Of course I took loads of photographs and I have put some up for viewing in the Photos of the Prototype section.

  6. I undertook a Railway holiday last month travelling via Scotland to Yorkshire and visited a number of Historical Railways along with the National Railway Museum at York. The trip in Yorkshire was an organised one so you only had limited time to see around you and some of the photographs were taken from inside a moving carriage and the clarity in those is poor. Also it was during the very good spell of weather and very bright sunshine did not help in capturing a good image.

  7. Looking real good, love the weathering!

Thanks for the feedback, I selected a 0.3mm styrene sheet as the real roof is about 0.5" thick. What were the reasons you use thicker styrene as I may use this for future kits if it is more practical.

May I use your picture on the SSM website?

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner but I've been away - I used thicker styrene and heated it with a hair dryer to get some more of a curve to the roof and felt the thicker plastic held the shape better. You can use my picture if you think it is of good enough standard to meet your needs.

  8. 30TonBrakeVan003.jpg

Finally finished the Studio Scale Models CIE 30 Ton Brake Van Kit. Fiddly in parts but having done one a second one would be much easier. Some parts were missing or mislaid by me and I had to improvise from the scrap brass. I used thicker plastic card for the roof but am not totally satisfied with it. Overall a nice model and thanks to Westie for introducing it.
