Thank you very much yes well currently over 2 years I've spent nearly 2 k in materials and parts but that was between 2023 and 2024 but luckily we have made alot of parts for it so making it yourself helps it's progressing nicely I reckon it'll need nearly 1000 euro to 1,500 euro to complete it luckily I have from 2025 till 2029 to get it complete biggest expenses will be making the cylinders and the silver solder for the boiler -
Hi everyone my names callum christie and im 18 and I'm from county wexford and I want to tell you a little about my self I'm a 3rd generation of model engineer it started with my great grandfather James whom worked in the Midland great western railway he built miniature steam locomotives in Broadstone in his office and it Skipped a generation with my grandfather William and luckily my dad became a blacksmith/boilersmith in Inchicore Works in the 1980s and has blacksmith ironworks company since 1992 and now I've took up being a blacksmith and model engineer and together me and my Father Fínín Build minature steam locomotives together and restore my great grandfather's locomotives he built in Broadstone from 1939 -1969 and and one we're building in Particular We're Building Is A 7 1/4 Replica Of The Great Southern Railways 800 Class Maédb Which we have built up to the Chassis frames and Wheels We are Starting on The Copper Boiler soon for the chassis parts we need now are the front bogie and driving arms and all the outside motions and cylinders but we've made a great start I started this project in July 2023 and I'm hoping to have it done and in Steam by Maédb's 90th birthday in July 2029 I will hopefully be holding an event at my local minature railway in Dublin to celebrate the new " Maédb " and her full-sized sisters 90th birthday

Unfortunately yes it seems that way if I had the money to bring the full size maédb back I would as I'd sooner get rid of any other irish steam trains that are left I'd only keep maédb 171 slieve gullion and 85 merlin all the rest I don't care about but yes my 7 1/4 replica maédb I currently have it built up to the chassis and wheels and I've started on the copper boiler I'm hoping to get started driving arms and cylinders before the end of 2025 as I want to have it running before maédbs 90th birthday in July 17th 2029 I am planning on having a medium sized celebration for maédb's 90th birthday at my local minature railway in marlay park Dublin -

Okay thanks definitely I'm hoping to have it done in 2 or 3 year hopefully for maédbs 90th birthday in 2029 as maédb Is my favourite locomotive of all time and me and my father build minature steam locomotives as did my great grandfather and maédb has been on my building project since July 2023 and I'm in the process of building the boiler at the moment out of copper and im currently trying to custom build all the outside motion but I'm trying to find someone who can down scale the maédb full size drawings down to 7 1/4 but I'm working away it should be done by 2027 hopefully -
Hi everyone my names callum and I was just wondering is there anyone who is selling any models of 800 class maédb or is there anyone that'd build one as I am currently building the only working minature live steam replica of an 800 maédb a 7 1/4 inch gauge live steam working replica and I've always wanted a 00 gauge model of maédb but with building a 7 1/4 gauge replica of maédb most of my time is taken up trying to build it from scratch so I'd like to get a 800 class 00 gauge maédb to have in the mean time lol

The last locomotive built at Broadstone
M.G.W.R_CLASS_50_1939 replied to jhb171achill's topic in Irish Models
Thank you very much I appreciate it greatly if it wasn't for my father finin who was 5 when his grandfather died my dad knew his grandfather James enough so if it wasn't for my dad who remembered his grandad and who always wanted to get his grandads locos running I wouldn't of known about my great grandfather's locos as my grandfather william was very secretive about his father's tools and locomotives if it wasn't for my father finin pushing his father about his grandads locos we wouldn't have 2 of his locomotives now unfortunately there's still a few locomotives of my great grandfather's that are still in my great aunte Margarets house in dublin so I'm working on getting all my great grandfather's back and reunited and getting them all running again it's a hard task but I won't give up but in the mean time I'm enjoying his locos we have and I've been trying to contact irrs about giving a talk but unfortunately it's extremely hard to get someone to answer my emails so we'll see but I'm going to be persistent and hopefully they'll answer it soon anyway I appreciate your nice words kind regards callum christie
