  1. Seamus, having been one of those soldiers who couldn't solder for sh-one-T, the solution is:

-low temp solder (which I could throw in with the kit for free)

-fine sandpaper ( to remove the oxide layer) and most importantly

-flux fluid(Carrs Green is a good one)

Once you have these, it is easier than glueing, seriously. It is next to impossible without these items.

Alternatively, I could look at presoldering some of the elements for a few quid extra, leaving some easy glueing and painting to the customer.

But I do suggest trying the solder...

  2. Oh the temptation...I'm putting this list in my "for consideration" section...

I remember those GSWR coaches when they were in Mallow in the early 80's when I was part of the GSRPS. Isn't there one of them up in Clifden as well.

By the way, whatever happened to the converted Scammell lorry that was part of GSRPS collection? There is a photo on page 46 of "Rails through the West", based in Oranmore where it was used as a private owners shunting vehicle.

  3. Have to say, one week in and I am seriously impressed.

A doddle to upload images and video

simple clean readable layout and consistent iconography

proactively managed and a great confidence in the fact that there are several moderators.

Oh and did I mention it's easy to upload images. Dog...two mickeys etc...:D

  4. @ John Mayner

I've looked into laser cutting but unfortunately neither the cost nor the technology suit this kind of niche. €5000 min for a laser cutting machine, and you're kind of restricted with the media you use.... If I can get enough out of this for a super high resolution printer, I can worry bout maybe getting custom dies cut for chopping out sash windows!

    Richie,

Brass would be a good option for the sash windows, something I have done already and would be interested in developing or supplementing your (AWESOME) kits.

Regarding the bridges, what do you have in mind? I have done preliminary work on a standard cut limestone roadbridge as well as a girder bridge (brass and resin combo).

  5. A 20 wouldn't Eamon, but a 24 or a 25 might be as they had similarly sized Sulzer engines.

Des, is it still your intention to make the kit easily adaptable for Athearn SD9 running gear as well as the Hornby Deltic?

Not just my intention, but has been done. The floor pan has been etched to enable the easy removal of a second ope so that the SD9 chassis can be easily mounted. The bogie sides are also a compromise size that fall between the Class 55 and SD9 dimensions.

  6. Oh Lordy Mark, if I knew that.....

It all depends on getting the time.

I need to ensure the master fits together ok. Then strengthen it internally suitable for moulding. Build up the compound curves and joins with milliput. Final approve and send to the moulders.

Do up the etch design for the detailing pack, approve and finalise

    Instructions written and designed.

    I'm looking at June.

  7. Great to see a few ingenuées for the International Bar on board.
