  1. Ok, so it will be a very small 'inglenook' type shunting layout with an extra fiddle yard/board . I also ran the track from board edge to edge at the back so that I could make another section at a later date. A modular idea - as I have several of these ply wood sheets ready cut. But that is for the future. (In the past i have always moved on to more and more and then never actually completed a layout , or close to complete anyway!) I'll try to attach a plan.

  2. Hi all. It has been quite some time since I've been on here. (This has been down to some general fatigue and aches and pains, along with a hectic family life, new job and just not having much time) . Any way, I felt less and less like going to the attic, so I took the decision to run down the attic layout and work on a simple micro layout that could be stowed away easily. My mind was made up when my father in law gave me a stock of wood off cuts including  a number of ply boards cut to about 8" by 3ft , and some more a little shorter. As soon as I saw them I started thinking "layout, layout". I'm recycling most railway items from previous efforts to keep the cost down. Here's a few  snaps of work so far:

  3. Oh God I'm going to be broke again! That looks great.  Not far off now! Support your local model shops on this one. We've lost too many on the island already.

  4. Looks to me like it was a repair wall or replacement at a much later date. You could finish that section in stone to match the rest I'd say, if modelling an earlier period maybe.  I wonder what was there before the repair / rebuild ??

  5. Here is the building in situ in the new more modern end of the layout. I built a container crane too but I'm starting to think it would overwhelm the scene. I might put a picture up for advice. Next I have a lot of scenic  work behind to finish and some track adjustments around the corner from this area. Keep me out of trouble.

  6. The finish is a scalescenes sheet ashlar ?? printout in black and white and then I washed it over with very thin black tinted wash to dull it down. Yes I based it loosely on kingscourt. I'm planning a small cement facility for the right hand side , which of course was not at kingscourt.

  7. Hi guys. The layout has undergone some remodelling and rethinking to make it more accessible. I've made room for a small container yard .  Here is a modern grubby office i made for the yard. More pics of the changes to follow layer.

  10. Just been working on a simple system for allowing me to use small cassette s to add/ turn/ remove stock. I settled on a slide in idea. The guides should keep the track aligned, which will be fixed to the wooden slide part of the cassette. The cassettes won't be long - about 2 ft. The supporting board just slides in on bolts for easy removal, I really want to keep this layout to a limited size. Crocodile clips will do for power to the cassettes for now, probably upgrade to a more permanent power system at some point.

  11. I've now added in the point motors and tidied up the wiring a bit. The point motors are in good nick and recycled from the attic layout. Also recycled is the expensive ish but very useful DCC concepts point motors controller that lets me run the points off the NCE powercab. Bit of a test run with some stock too.
