Kieran, Great to see you have solved the issue on the points/polarity, and hope all works fine now. The video on the steam trap, brilliant its years since I heard that, yet it still brings a chuckle. The shelving looks impressive and neat too, whats your advice on the helix? would you do it any different if you were building again, I ask this as I may consider storage roads under neath the layout in the future.TDR

Many thanks for looking into the thread and making comments on the progress and advice. I'm seeking direction of how to position signals, their correct aspects, etc if any of you are willing to advise it would be very much appreciated, please feel free to give any contributions you feel constructive. The signals are colour light ype TDR

Thanks Guys. I'm just not sure which is the most successful or preferred DIY method: "Hand paint, paint with stencil, or transfers?" especially with early black livery 141s (e.g. B141). I didn't see any transfers on SSMs web site for the black baby GMs with the 'B' prefix. The factory numbering looks like paint rather than transfers.
Noel my understanding is the manufactures normally use a system called Tampo printing using paint to apply the required/desired numbering, logo etc, thats why I believe they are easily removed using surgical spirit. Transfers are easier to apply ,and more accurate than stensil or free hand. Give Des Sullivan "Studio Scale Models" a shout he may be able to produce specifically what you require TDR

How does one put the replacement numbers on? Hand paint, spray paint with stencil, or use transfers? If the last two where can they be sourced?
Noel, Studio Scale Models or RailtecTransfers both supply the transfers. Links to their sites are on the bottom of the main IRM page under Manufacture tab.TDR

I think just a cotton bud and some white spirits with a bit light dabbing does the job, I've never done it myself.
Cotton bud and a little surgical spirit rubbing gently, be very careful not to rub to hard as it will start to remove the paint also. I've used this on numerous renumbering projects. If your still unsure try it on an old body first to perfect your techniques. TDR

Mr Raaymooond,
Who has been a busy Boy?
Looking fantastic, well done on all your efforts. Upsetting the homeostasis was an expression we used in a certain well known computer manufacturer, and supplier of serviced I one worked for. You, have just done this to me Sir. Recently extended my home railway, just spent the last four days on Scenery Works. Your railway is, yet again, superior to mine, my homeostasis is upset so, very, very upset as I'm going to have to scrap everything and start, all over again. It 's all your fault I got into this infernal hobby anyway. For those that don't know, Ray and I met many years ago at one of the NDMRS, Bangor Show. I assisted him and a young Stephen to run their Exhibition railway. Well that was it, I was infected by the Modellers Railway Virus (MRV). Sadly there is no known cure for this condition. You have to live with it, and take the drugs that keep it controlled. Unfortunately the virus control is - visit Model Railway Emporia on a regular basis so that you addiction is kept under control.
Super results Ray.
Regards,
Old Blarney.
David you have to take the prescribed medications as directed. A quick seditive can be found by a Brief visit to a model shop. TDR

Very well done on the layout so far, it looks great and you have made great progress. I really like the track plan at the station, there is lots of potential there!

Great work and super scenic craftsmanship. It is inspiring.
Which method are you planning to use for track ballasting?
Noel, i plan to do the ballasting next then detail the scenics. I'm experimenting with two types currently, quarry dust sieved to medium size and woodland scenics medium grey mix, I'm also going to try mixing both as a third option. Still not sure which will turn out to be the choice, but it will be a few weeks yet before starting, I promised myself a good running session over the next couple of days before proceeding with the next task. Looks fantastic TDR! Love the look of the viaduct with the town behind it and the view from the platforms with the signal cabin, water tank and turntable. Both look very realistic. Are the logs on the timber train real wood?
Josefstadt, thank you, I'm pleased with the way its turning out so far. Yes the logs are real. Cut from twigs that fell last autumn and gathered in the local park, dried out and cut to size then glued on.

Hi everybody, finished the basic scenery today and have taken a few pictures to view for detailing, the track will have an overhaul tomorrow getting a thorough cleaning for a good running session, heres a couple of pics of the basic scenery completed. TDR

http://www.lococarriage.org.uk/ireland_1992.html
Found a great wee piece here on Irish Railways 1992. Belfast in particular is covered quite a bit, which is quite rare around those times maybe given the situation. Some great pics from Adelaide freight yard, all of which is now gone! Anyone know what is hiding between the cement silo in the picture taken from the top of Adelaide crane? Is it a hunslet?
Great reading and interesting pictures, thanks for posting. TDR

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to look into this thread and made comments on the progress thus far. It gives great encouragement, thank you all. By Sunday I hope to have the scenery, stage "one" completed on this section on the layout. The track will then have a good cleaning and I can enjoy running sessions whilst mapping out the finer details before starting on the fiddle yard/cement, oil and molasses depots. Hopefully I'll post some more pictures on Sunday. Thanks again TDR

Could you post more pics of the station area please?
GSR 800, will do this weekend. I've been working my way round towards the station area and finished off today at the platform edges. Hopefully I will have completed the whole of the basic greenery by Sunday and I'll post a few then, from both ends of the station. TDR
