BY THE WAY, what are the purpose of the circular ope, standouts on the side frame, picked out in white on some, I notice them on a few wagons on CIE

Fascinating stuff

I don't disagree with what's been said ,but I think it's nonsense to suggest we have done paddy Murphy a disservice by nor running out and buying everything he's made to date. In fact paddy I believe has little stock left. The dealers bought all he made.
I think we need to shift Way from Rtr and look at good quality kits. This provides a solution to the issues of needing large numbers for Rtr

Careful mixing metric stranding and awg , they are not directly compatible
Assuming droppers at 1-2 metres With a power bus close by
For droppers I'd suggest 16/02 , OD 1.6. , for the power bus I'd suggest 32/0.25 , OD 3.1m. , round about equivalent awg20 , and 14 respectively . This would be for a typical modern motors based locos.
Note that dcc does not typical have a live and neutral. Both rails are live at AC
Little can be gained by twisting the DCC cables. The operating frequency is around 200 kHz

Dave, the 6-wheel vans, 3153-3156 lasted until sometime after the end of November 1980. But, as JHB says, the 4-wheel vans would all have been gone by that time. I remember the MkII a/b stock on the Galway line and, as far as I can remember they had black window frames.
That would make sense I remember small steam heating vans on the L -W , we always had a motley collection of park royals
By the way my memory, of Park royals , is a 3+2 seating , with no tables ?

Could the air braked mk 2a run with all the IR locos? I don't think the A class had air had it
I remember being on the new 2D on the Waterford Dublin when I was a lad ( around 74 i think ) they were so quiet. But you couldn't open the windows so I did t like em.

Dave - the last 4 and 6 wheel vans disappeared from passenger service in the late 70s. So, it's BR and Dutch vans after that.
I don't remember seeing silver window frames on the mk2 ab's, but I didn't see them very often.
Hmm I used to travel Limerick to Waterford , 1978-82, ( more during 78-80)I clearly remember travelling in the Park Royals ( with the 3 + 2 seating) ( or were these Laminates ) , and they were dynamo lit. I can't ember if the steam heating was 4/6 wheel or Bogie, maybe it was just a "dutch" with no generator running ?

anyone got any interior pictures of the non-suburban park royals by the way
Still can't find anything on the CIE mk 2A
ALso , since they were air braked, didi that mean they could only run with a selected set of air GM's. I know they were all fitted with air, but weren't only a few actually commissioned
thanks

Yes all these ( fine ) pics are Mk2Ds
Anyone got any of the Mk2a , I believe they were all 2a's except the buffet which was 2B
numbers 4101- 4114 and 2B, 4401 , 4402

I have two questions that still bug me
When did the 2nd hand Mk2A coaches get put into service, and where did they run, are there any photos of them in super train livery ( did I understand correctly they had bright window frames)
Can Anyone confirm what ran behind NON-TL cravens and Park royals to provide the steam heat only ( this should have been around 1978-81)
thanks

Speaking to Mr. Murphy , I suspect he may put his well earned carpet slippers on. I wonder will he bother doing anything more then what he's already announced. Personally, I think, the hobby will have to start looking at alternatives

I suspect you have back emf sensing on those decoders

Perhaps we could have a crowd funded scrap age scheme for IR. Railcars. Bring back loco hauled trains I say , I can't view those 22k or 27k as real trains at all.

Ive used several types of underlay. personally Cork is very poor. It starts off great, but absorbs paint, PVA etc and becomes almost ridig. Im going to experiment with high density 3-5mm closed cell polyurethane foam, ( like camping mats etc). Suggestions elsewhere seem to suggest it does not go rigid.

More than welcome lads. Next "Airbrush Thingy" will take place in the new year, if there's interest. First one went on for 2 and a half hours, and I can't think of any topic that wasn't discussed, and plenty stock practiced on by the participants whatsmore. Richie
Real sorry I missed it, had a major family clash that Id forgotten about until SWMBO "reminded" me !!!

Could this traffic be enough to warrant the reopening of the Waterford - Wexford line? It would open up a scenic corner of the country without having to travel back up the East coast line to Dublin, or having to bus the passengers between Wexford and Waterford.......
IR would choke on their stored 201s first. IN fact Im quite surprised they facilitated the sale of the Mk3, Ill believe this train when I see it.

seriously , theres a smell !!!

I was wondering what was the typical CIE PW stock around that time, I remember seeing Tampers in the middle seventies , was the yellow eedsprayer train set up as such etc. ANy photos of typical PW stock of the period

Does need a bigger venue, it was seriously overcrowded. It also needs a 21mm layout, there where too many "exhibition" style layouts
