  1. Hi all, see video. Train at speeds from 10%-20% on controller. My old limas won't even budge at anything under 50%! so this impressed me. The slow crawl at 10% isn't bad either and much, much quieter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwPhGTwVWL8&feature=youtu.be
  2. More here [video=youtube;jmT-lwsl30g]
  3. They are a chinese knock off (NEWQIDA) and sometimes hard to find. My understanding is that serious garden railway guys often buy the rolling stock they make and mix it in with the expensive stuff. The loco runs under its own power - rechargeable battery, given the Irish weather I quite like this idea. The details is outstanding. I bought mine through ebay a few years back. This is all I could find now. http://www.hammondtoy.com/shop/agora.cgi?product=NEWQIDA_TOYS_FACTORY http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G-SCALE-STARTER-FREIGHT-45mm-GAUGE-GARDEN-RAILWAY-FLAT-BED-TRAIN-SET-ACCESSORIES-/331604723448?hash=item4d352e86f8:g:WlEAAOSwa-dWiWcq
  4. Contemplating small garden layout. A while back bough this cheap LGB knock off (pictured next to HO and Z). Radio controlled and rechargeable battery. I think I payed about 100euroes.
  5. Running with new motor. Runs lovely and smooth at 25% power +, which is probably a bit too quick for a small layout like mine. A lot quieter and less smelly than a pancake. Smooth crawl still not possible. Overall for a ten euro fix I am very pleased.
  6. New motor fitted, body sprayed to look look faux A class, early livery. Bit of soldering now. Nice rainy day activity.
  7. Brilliant, had forgotten about Bob Fleming! Haha. But yes it has a certain fastshow feel to it.
  8. Interesting video about getting the most out of a pancake. Long, but interesting. I repeated this process with my class 33 'non runner' and was really surprised by how nicely it ran. I'll still remotor it with the kit though to see how much of an improvement it could make.
  9. I've seen those guys, but twith sterling and postage its not that cheap. The one I bought was 10euros including postage. However if it works out I'd be tempted to their motor for the old lima 201, so we'll see.
  10. Rather than use on my irish class 33's. I've bought a cheap 'non runner' BR one for 12quid on the bay. Gonna re-motor with the kit and spray it silver and decal it as a faux - A class, early livery. Just a cheap, simple little project to match my skill set. Will post some pictures. Thanks for all the feedback.
  11. Yes indeed, my class 33's run like that too and wobble also!
  12. 240 in todays money. God bless mammy and daddy.
  13. I think my first set was a little hornby clockwork 0-4-0 with 2 plastic wagons. Loved it. The set which had me hooked for life came from santa and is pictured below. It must have been mid to late 1980's. I'm almost certain they were 80pounds in the local toymaster, which must have been expensive. I had a few lima/mehano sets as they were always more affordable than hornby.
  14. Hi all, thanks for the great feedback, I knew it was CD player motor but didn't think it might overheat so thanks for the heads up! The listen is now gone from ebay - although it was an Irish seller. Still for 10euros I'll give it a go! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111881825190?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  15. Hi All, Just bought a kit for ten euros on the bay to remotor the old lima pancake, looks like a very simple conversion that someone like me could handle. Anybody ever do this before? Want to remotor my Irish class 33's.
  16. I am responsible for this and you know a James Bond train set might actually make more sense than a DA one. Scalextic already do James Bond stuff. Triang did some triang/minic hybrid sets in the 60's I think.
  17. That Iraqi freedom set is now a must have for me ! "a train set to fight the war and win the peace" Oh my word. Je-sus Christ.
  18. So a dean goods loco would have at least looked similar. I have to ask, who is the intended target market for such a set? I suppose in the US novelty set have always been around, I've seen some really strange ones on the bay, an ELVIS train set even.
  19. I'm sure you could easily find a perfectly square piece of dirt to suit.
  20. Oh Jesus, that's awful looking. I thought it might be something more substantial - a 4-6-0 or 4-6-2 type set.
  21. I've often thought an 00 scale kit/model of Father Ted's house might sell well. Anyone know what the Downtown Abbey set consisted of???
  22. On that RM tread there is a picture of a Downtown Abbey train set. What in the name of God? I suppose the Harry Potter train sets were meant to have been profitable.
