I think that if I presented this to the Chief Executive of the Dept. of Domestic Policy, Implementation and Expenditure, I would end up partly-dismembered on the scrap line in Inchicore, along with those oul 201s.........

We are prepared for you to take that risk, for the common good.

Royal Mail are all over the place.

Royal Mail tracking says my package from Hattons is in Milton Keynes.

Well news flash to Royal Mail.

The package is on my kitchen table in South Kerry 🙄

I probably* still have one in the system, from a few years ago, where they claimed it was going to be delivered the day before it was despatched.

When it was finally delivered, the system seemed unable to cope with such a time paradox and left it existing in some sort of Back the Future limbo.

    * They now can't find it at all, three years later - "Sorry, we're currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference GQ171144677GB . Please try again tomorrow."

It did finally appear, but the system never got further than shown in the picture, I looked every now and then until I got fed up.

Didn't the An Post CEO write an open letter in the FT about this, openly blaming Royal Mail for not implementing some required software solution that shipments to the EU as a whole will require quite soon, but which Ireland is already implementing as a sort of guinea pig to give RM a bit of a chance to get things sorted without millions of parcels from the whole EU being returned to it?

The FT letter was more detailed but I can't find it right now.

The colour is actually very nice. My only bugbear is what they were smoking when they put the pinstriping so high up the body. Although, "so high" up the body is probably a clue...

It was only Silk Cut Purple, honest.

Anyone seen the repaint on the RPSI genny van?

    It’s a strange purply magic-mushroom colour.

Have you actually seen this in real life?

Or was it possibly a vision that you had whilst relaxing after a hard day?

I thought that this project would have been more challenging for you. I'm disappointed that a write-off was so easy to sort. I'll have to put more thought into your next challenge. Maybe some sort of global scavenger hunt to recover the shattered pieces, first.

Three locos, put through a mincer, all the bits supplied in the one plastic bag, no prior identification.

Let's see how good he really is.

Counter to all these points as a self proclaimed boy racer,

    No smoke, no poke!

But counter again to myself who has spent the last while selling EVs, they are slowly winning me over as a daily car amd are indeed the way of the future, however, I would miss the drum and noise of a Straightpiped ICE every now and again, and the roar of F1 and Rallying

It seems to me that it should be fairly easy to have convincing sound effects, both inside and outside the vehicle.

Almost like DCC sound is, but with a bit more 'scale and depth'.

Next job will be to weather it "extensively" at the wish of its owner so don't blame me 😄

I once saw a 66 at Holyhead, that, apart from the sweeps of the wipers, looked like the whole thing had just been given a nice even coat of Halfords grey primer.

I wasn't in a position to record the image, unfortunately.

Any responsible manufacturer will have spares and parts for a reasonable amount of time. More so if the models remain in production but a ‘one man band’ like Murphy Models the process can be a little looser. we don’t have parts particularly for any MM items we sell (but do of course for any IRM items)

Where I worked, we would often get requests for spares from the past. As is common, some very early products will last a long time, before people get pressures from accountants to cut costs, once some experience has been got.

I once got a letter from some obscure place in the ex-colonies, asking for a spare terminal bushing* for a thing that I'd never heard of. Some searching found the details of the component. It was clear that there would not be 'one lying about somewhere' and, it would be hugely expensive to attempt to make one, plus the design required materials that would have been illegal many years before, so it would require a completely new design.

I informed the potential customer of the ridiculous price that we would require, should we agree to have a go at making something that might work.

They got quite shirty about us not having one on the shelf, even after I pointed out that they had bought it before my father was born.

    * This sort of thing.

A nice pic of a crewless 0.7.0.........oil burner.........

I hadn't noticed the white circle!

I must find out if that is intentional.

The school has a quiz running tonight, that I have been roped into - I'll see if I can find out who is responsible...
