CIE “Flying Snail” & “Roundel” / “Broken Wheel” Colour Guide

Steam loco tenders* (not locos, not tank locos at all). Same whether the tender was grey, green or black.

 

“A” Class diesels in silver or both green liveries

All coaches in 1945-55 dark green livery, most coaches repainted after the silver 1958-60, few if any repainted in 1960-62

Painted on, used on wagons 1945 to early 1950s. Some examples still to be seen, badly weathered, late 50s. No gold lining.

*  On the offside – driver’s side of road vehicles, and away-from-platform side on loco tenders, the “snail” was reversed in direction, with the upper part pointing right (towards the front of the vehicle) instead of left. Otherwise, always like this:  \O\ (see my avatar!)

Black, red, gold, tartan or any other “snails” were never put on anything road or rail. 

If I can think of anything more I will add it to this table.

 

Mods - I can't seem to be able to "widen" this table to make it more readable. If you can work your magic, please do!
