Replacement Coach Wheels

Rate this question

Question

Posted

I want to replace the plastic wheels on some Hornby coaches. They measure approx. 13mm in diameter but replacement metal wheels seems to be in 10.5mm, 12mm and 14mm sizes.

Is this a case of Hornby using undersize wheels and I should replace with 14mm ones?

Hi Kirley

Yes, 13mm seem to be a hard one to get! All the manufactures have omitted 13mm, it's probably not to scale. I was doing the same recently and had to settle for 14mm Romford from Branchlines.

Depends what models they are - if they are BR coaches, then mk1's ran on 3' 6" (14mm) dia, whereas mk2's etc ran on 3' 0" (12mm) dia - can't speak for pre-nationalisation coaches I'm afraid.

Thanks Guys, As they are BR Mark II's the 12mm would appear to be the ones to go for.
