Question

I presume by regulation every item of Rolling Stock must carry a unique number. I have searched my limited collection of Anhydrous Ammonia Tanker pictures to identify where the Number Series 32001 – 32020 are carried on these Wagons to no avail.

Can anyone help please?

The number was carried in a data panel on the side of the tank barrel:

CIE NET Anhydrous Ammonia wagon2.jpg

On the other side it was at the far end - i.e. on one side it was at the end with the small removable circular cover on the end of the tank (as in above photo), while on the opposite side it was at the end with the large access hatch. In the early days the number was prefixed with CIÉ. I don't know if in later years this changed to IR or IÉ.
