Hi,

 

RedCapBooks have recently acquired a small collection of highly collectable railway books and memorabilia. Many of the books are long out of print and are quite scarce. We want to ensure that these items come into the hands of true lovers of railroads, so over the coming days we will be advertising them here, and on other railway-related sites. Thereafter, we will advertise the items more generally. So if you are interested in railway books and memorabilia please check in here over the next few days, when we will be displaying images of some of the books that we have available. To start with, however, we post a brief list of some of the more interesting books that we have available:

 

Ernest Shepherd, The Dublin & South Eastern Railway, David & Charles Publishing, 1974. Hardback with dust jacket; dust jacket and book in very good condition - €25 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Patrick Flanagan, The Cavan & Leitrim Railway, David & Charles Publishing, 1966. Hardback with dust jacket; Book very good, dust jacket has a few minor brown spots €25 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Edward Patterson, The County Donegal Railways, David & Charles Publishing, 2nd ed, 1963. Hardback with dust jacket; book good, dust jacket has a few minor scuff marks - €27 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Edward Patterson, The Lough Swilly Railway, David & Charles Publishing, new and revised ed., 1988. Hardback with dust jacket; book very good, dust jacket has minor tear at back - €22 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Edward Patterson, The Ballymena Lines, David & Charles Publishing, 1968. Hardback with dust jacket; book very good, minor foxing on dust jacket - €25 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Edward Patterson, The Belfast & County Down Railway, David & Charles Publishing, 1982. Hardback, no dust jacket. Book in good condition - €15 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Edward Patterson, The Clogher Valley Railway, David & Charles Publishing, 1972. Hardback, but dust jacket not present. Ex libris imprint on inside front cover. Book in good condition - €15 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

H. Fayle & A.T. Newham, The Waterford & Tramore Railway, David & Charles Publishing, 2nd ed., 1972. Hardback with dust jacket. Book very good, but an ex library book, so has the usual stamps etc; dust jacket good, but spine faded - €20 (to include standard p&p within Ireland). Sale agreed!

David Rowlands, The Tralee & Dingle Railway, Bradford Barton, no date (perhaps 1977). Hardback with dust jacket; dust jacket and book fine - €18 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

Vincent Caprani, A view from the DART, MO Books, 1986. Paperback, no dust jacket. Book in fair to good condition. No annotations, but one page torn, and taped. Hand-drawn illustrations throughout. At this stage the DART ran from Howth to Bray - €8 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

The original page from The Illustrated London News, 24 August 1867, showing an illustration of the train accident betweeen Bray and Greystones. Brief story about the accident on the back. These look great when framed. You probably will not come across this original sheet again. Size - 280 mm x 405 mm - €28 (to include standard p&p within Ireland).

 

Bundles

Bundle 1€15, to include standard P&P within Ireland. Consists of two books by James Kilroy: Howth and her trams (1986); fair condition, some creases & Trams to the Hill of Howth, a photographic tribute (1998); good, but back cover slightly curled.

 

Bundle 2€13, to include standard P&P within Ireland. Consists of two books - A.T. Newham, The Listowel & Ballybunion Railway (1989 enlarged ed.) & Stanley Jenkins, The Cork, Blackrock & Passage Railway (2nd ed., 1993); very good condition; never used.

 

Bundle 3€12, to include standard P&P within Ireland. Michael Hamilton, Down memory line, Sligo, Leitrim & North Counties Railway (1997); good condition & Kathleen Villiers-Tuthill, The Connemara Railway (2003); very good condition & Great Southern Railtours, The Connaught Campaigner, 4 March 1989; fair condition, creased (“Due to limitations on space we are unable to reserve any carriages exclusively for smokers, and we would ask those of you who feel the need to light up to do so in the corridor” (p. 12)).

 

Bundle 4€25, to include standard P&P within Ireland. Consists of six books. John Piercy, Call us back to Donegal, a photographic tribute (2000), very good; E. M. Patterson, The Castlederg and Victoria Bridge Tramway (1998), very good; Cavan & Leitrim Railway, guide book and stock list (2nd ed), good, but some underlining in pencil; Donegal’s Railway Heritage, a visitor’s guide, no. 1, South Donegal, good; Norman Johnston, The Fintona Horse Tram (1992), very good; D. B. McNeill, Ulster tramways & light railways (2nd repr, 1966), very good.

 

Bundle 5 - €30, to include standard P&P within Ireland. Consists of four books. Irish railways in pictures, no. 1 – The Great Northern (1976); fair condition, three small ink scribbles on title page & Padraic O’Farrell, By rail through the heart of Ireland (1990); very good, slight scrape on back cover & Jrnl, Irish Railway Record Society, vol 19, no. 134 (1997); good, but pages slightly wavy from damp & Doyle and Hisrch, Railway lines of Córas Iompair Éireann and Northern Ireland Railways (1985); very good condition; never used. This is a very scarce volume, especially in this condition.
