  1. DJ Looks like I received a link to your posting, with the loco modification and video, from the administrator. I replied to him, to congratulate you on your work! Now fully awake! Thanks very much for your offer of help. There is a replacement sound decoder on its way and I should get it in a couple of days. That's a good point you've made, that it might be able to function even without all the pins. That pin which I broke, was bent, almost flat, because the decoder had been badly mounted on to the unit. That was my fault! It's hard to believe that I'd been so careless, because I've a total of 13 of the Class 071s and Class 201s and I have fitted the decoders to all of them. But there you are! I've only just disovered it because the loco wasn't running well and I decided to give it some grease, etc., and take out at the decoder to test it. Turns out the decoder was fine, but once it was removed the damage was exposed! I think the bent pin may have been making contact with the end of the conducting channel (on the base) of the decoder, so that the loco was able to run, but not well. Before I do anything drastic I've got some 26 gauge wire that fits the decoder channel. I'll see if there's a work-around where I might be able to seat a piece of the wire into place so that it makes contact. There's no access to a place to solder to, unless I get the board out and, at the moment, that's a last resort for me. Cheers Allan
  2. DJ Thanks for getting back to me. Looks and sounds like you've done a great job on that model! My reluctance to do it myself is just in being intimidated by the amount of wiring on the Class 071 model. I may well give it a shot. Cheers Allan
  3. Hi I wonder if anyone can point me to someone who could replace the circuit board on a Class 071 loco. I've broken one of the pins of the 21 pin decoder mount, so I think the whold board needs to be replaced. Thanks, in advance, for any help! Allan
  4. Hi

I saw that you had posted so diagrams of the Hunslet locos (NIR Class 101).

I will shortly be receiving a set from SilverFox Models and I was wondering if you, or anyone else, might recommend a DCC sound module that I could use.

And, if anyone has any examples running, I'd very much like to get links, if possible, to pictures, videos, etc.

    Thanks!

Thanks very much, both of you, for getting back to me.

Sorry to have been a while in replying, but some stuff came up and railways had to be left aside.

I had heard those Hornby TTS sound cards and was thinking of them. Are those the ones you mean?

Good to know that others with experience thought the sound was very similar.

Today, I received the set from Silver Fox and they look really good. Each can pull a set of six carriages. I've just been running them and they appear to top out at moderate speed.

Also thanks for pointing out NITCLASS80's layout. I'll check it out!

      Cheers for now

No problem at all, this forum has helped me a lot so I’m glad I was of some assistance! I think it is the Class 20 TTS decoder in the Hunslet, NIRCLASS80 would be the best person to ask in regards to his model. Hope you get on well with it!

Thanks. I've placed an order with Mark's Models and they're going to get to it when the virus problem subsides.

  5. I ordered a set about two years ago and haven't been able to get a reply from David since about 18 months ago.
